Here's the expression, frogs are cold blooded creatures and thus their skin adjusts to the temperature around. So supposedly you could put a frog in hot water and slowly increase the temperature until it boiled and dies.
So the thing is, how long does it take for you to realise that you are being 'boiled'. Some people don't realise it for their entire lives, slowly dying.
There's also the short term types, like a 3 hour dream when you realise that you're not supposed to be a flying cat and wake up.
Or thinking back on the day and remembering that you've been alternately shouting and kissing everyone. (Dr House would have spotted that immediately and attribute it to a neurological disease)
