While the story is quite blah, I did enjoy the book and found several uses for my copy.

It's heavy, so it makes for a good doorstop or paperweight. You could throw it out a window to hit the annoying dog that goes on your lawn, but I hear some dog owners take offense to that.

It's full of pages--some with words--and each page makes for unique wrapping paper, scratch paper, or origami.

If you ever need to cut and paste a ransom note, this book is an excellent resource.
you forgot emergancy toilet paper
Good God, I wouldn't touch that book with my bare hands, never mind my bare ass.

Ask for the receipt and go get something else from the bookstore.

Don't worry about offending the person who gave it to you, as they should be offended for getting it for you. Unless you're a fan of the books. Otherwise, that means they had no reason to get you it, especially as its the fourth in the series, and not a great starting point for any book series.

Why would you read the fourth first?
As I said, I got it as a gift. The person who gave me the gift forgot their reading glasses when they went to the bookstore, so based the purchase on the title of the book (big letters), and the picture on the cover.
Yeah, but if you decide you actually want to read the series, you could rent the first three from the library.
