Well I agree with what has already been suggested.

So long as you have a sense of humor, you'll thank me. I promise.

I would recommend reading Catch 22. Very dark humour and interesting to read since it's not told chronologically. It's one of those book where you don't know where it's going for most of it and then has an absolutely fantastic ending.

Holy crap, didn't expect this many replies XD Definitely a record for me on a thread.
K, I'm not a total noob to reading, I'm actually a very strong reader, I just haven't done much of it throughout high school, so I wanted some good ones that would excite me back into it.
Thanks for the suggestions, I have enough now to read for...my entire lifetime...
You know what, I'm gonna say Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Now, I have been reading, give or take, a book a week for the last 17 years. That means I have read about 850+ books. Dan Brown is rubbish author and is books are crap, well down the list. Some books I have read have stayed with me my whole life, indeed they have changed the way I live my life and the way I look at the world. That said the too books I have suggested above are fast paced, easy to read, page turners. Read them to get into reading and then move on to something better. You will forget about them in less then a week.
^This is 100% right. If you are not a big reader, you need to pick from the stuff that tops the bestsellers listings to read. It's easy to read, generally well paced and full of excitement and gets you started. A lot of what other people have suggested can be challenging to read if you are not a strong reader, or used to reading. If you don't like Dan Brown, than go with John Grisham or Tom Clancy or whatever else is is on the NY Times Mass Market Paperback best sellers.

Cheers mate. The ones you said are good too.

OP, if you like fantasy go for David Gemmell he is good but very easy to read. My favorite of his is Waylander.

"The Drenai King is dead - murdered by a ruthless assassin. Enemy troops swarm into Drenai lands. Their orders are simple - kill every man, woman and child. But there is hope.

Stalked by men who act like beasts and beasts that walk like men, the warrior Waylander must journey into the shadow-haunted lands of the Nadir to find the legendary Armour of Bronze. With this he can turn the tide. But can he be trusted? For he is Waylander the Slayer. The traitor who killed the King."

Dune. Don't start with that, you won't stomach it. But make sure to get around to reading it eventually.
