Well for the animation style I would call it that, it does borrow very heavily from some animes... really its a western interpration, well thats what I call it.

It's inspired by anime. In the same way that I sometimes find Scott Pilgrim in the manga section. Whenever I look for Scott Pilgrim and it's not there, someone has most likely misfiled it as manga.

Boondocks is an American animated series based on an American comic strip. Unfortunately, the "real" title, cartoon, is significantly less prestigious than Anime. It's better (for the fans) to package the "good" cartoons like Boondocks, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc. under that heading.

It's western anime, like Avatar: The Last Airbender.

It's not near as funny as the comic though, I have every book they released.

It isn't made in Japan, so technically it isn't an anime. As someone said, it is similar to the Last Airbender when it comes to the confusion. They have a similar style, but they are not anime. However, it is one hell of a good show.

I just checked: it's anime, get over it.

I'm just messing with you. Although triangular eyes? A bit on the anime side of the yard.
But that's about the only thing that's anime about it. One way to classify the difference of animation styles is the framerate. Most western animation goes with the two-frame, eastern animation usually goes with three-frame. Thanks, Doc Hammer, for good information on DVD commentaries!

It's american anime, like The Tick or Aeon Flux or Invader Zim. Not really anime, just cartoons for adults. Except, it isn't much like those shows because those shows were good.

All anime is is Japanese animation. The fact that it has a closely associated art style is irrelevant to categorization.

So, no. Boondocks is western animation.

Technically, "anime" is literally just a shortening of "animation", which is a very large topic. It's just that it's most associated with Japan. I suppose it could be similar to the "football vs football" debate: American football is correct as the ball is a foot-long, while the rest of the world's football is correct as it's played with the feet. It's just a way of naming a concept. Just because the term "anime" started in Japan, it doesn't mean that it must stay exclusively Japanese. While the art-style may not be modern-Japanese, it is still animation, just like Hellsing, Evangelion, Naruto, etc.
That's just my two-cents on the matter. *ducks*

Did you know that Japan considers EVERYTHING animated, regardless of where it came from, Anime? So yes, technically Boondocks IS anime.

Well, technically it is, considering Japanese the term anime is a blanket word covering all animation, regardless of country of origin. So it both is and isn't anime. Personally though, I think as long as you like it, it shouldn't make a bit of difference if it is an anime or a cartoon.

EDIT: Damn, ninja'd

I've been wondering the same thing for a while, and although it's heavily influenced by anime, it's definitely not anime. It and Avatar: The Last Airbender have generally the same art style (kinda), but I just can't consider either actual anime.
