Well, technically it is, considering Japanese the term anime is a blanket word covering all animation, regardless of country of origin. So it both is and isn't anime. Personally though, I think as long as you like it, it shouldn't make a bit of difference if it is an anime or a cartoon.
I tend to disagree.

Anime in English usually refers to a style of animation originating in Japan...
The passage goes on to list some common tropes in anime, such as the recurring art style and exaggerated emotions and expressions, but I think that bit was enough to illustrate my point. If it's made in Japan, it's anime, anywhere else, it's a cartoon. If it tries to be anime, but is a cartoon, by mimicing the style, that's animesque.

That's one of the two definitions. Within Japan, any style of animation, from any country, is refered to as anime. It is outside of Japan where the definition is changed to the above. So it is entirely dependant on which definition you choose to agree with. I tend to agree with the Japanese definition of it, so for someone like me, Boondocks is considered an anime.

It's american anime, like The Tick or Aeon Flux or Invader Zim. Not really anime, just cartoons for adults. Except, it isn't much like those shows because those shows were good.
I liked the Martin Luther King episode.

I wouldn't consider it anime, just cartoon

...which is what anime is. It's an American anime, which is just a Japanese style of cartoon. anyway, call it whatever you want, I just call it American anime and get it over with.

of course if you want to be all "is not from Japan, is not aneemay!" then that's your problem.

if anyone says I'm ignorant about anime or a hater, I instruct you to look at my avatar.

It's drawn in an anime style, generally some people think thats enough. I think If it came from Japan and is drawn in that style it's an anime (anime is just a word for a cartoon from Japan, basically), but thats my own personal definition. Also Anime's tend to be more closed loop. They have a beginning and end, where as cartoons always go back to status-quo. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what makes an anime.

It's an American cartoon drawn in anime style, IMO.

Kids are getting things backwards and have taken to calling all cartoons anime.
The term anime on it's own is pretty stupid anyways.
Many countries have cartoons, either they all get special names, or we just call it all cartoons.

If you want to be REAAAAALY specific, yes it is an anime. Anime is short for animation. Technically all cartoons are anime.

The only thing that makes a series anime is where it heralds from. Anime = cartoon. It's all about native location.

While The Boondocks certainly takes a few pointer from the visual style of anime, it's a cartoon as far as regional labels go.

It is in no way, shape, or form, an anime.
It's like Avatar: the last airbender. Just an American cartoon trying to look like an anime to gain popularity.

I don't see why people want to label stuff as anime as if it somehow makes it better.

To me the term anime in all parts of the world besides in Japan itself(where its just a shortened version of animation), refers to the same thing "Japanimation" used to. It can be a serious cartoon made for adults without being anime.

I would say no its not anime, even despite the fact Madhouse did some work on it in the second season. Its got a lot of influence from it, but it also has some big influences from American styles. Avatar the last Airbender is most definitely not anime.

I keep seeing the term "American anime". That just seem like self contradicting, as the term anime spread to refer specifically to the cartoons coming out of Japan. Why say something that basically means Japanese cartoon done by Americans in America, when you can just say cartoon or animated series.

But it's not, it's a japanese term used for their animation and adopted by the West to mean the specific style of Japanese cartoons that we're used to to seperate it from the vastly different western styles of animation.

Saying "all cartoons are anime" is only accurate if you're Japanese (same for comics, manga, graphics novels which could all be said to be the same thing).

If you're going to argue then I insist you provide a replacement adjective for us to use (Japanesey? :/).

Halo legends is anime as it was made in japan by one of the big aniem groups under licence to bungie and microsoft, then again all animation is anime or cartoons depending on what you choose to call them so its not like it matters.
