I like simple ("low-tech") boots made of genuine, tough leather, and have recently ordered a pair of Corcoran army boots [http://uscav.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=5489&tabid=548&catid=6]. It may take some time to break these things in (Pro tip: Wear two pairs of non-cotton socks during this process), but once they get comfortable, they get REALLY comfortable - and stay that way! Also, if you take proper care of them (treat them with a beeswax-based sealant before first use, repeat once a year, brush off dirt and dust as it accumulates and keep them shiny with regular Kiwi), they will last for years - meaning you won't have to worry about getting new boots for a LONG time!
Incidentally, I also considered some Dr. Martens [http://store.drmartens.co.uk/p-295-dr-martens-8761-bxb-boot.aspx]. It's a well-renowned brand and this particular model has a really impressive sole pattern, but I eventually decided on the Corcorans because they are taller. Yes, there are taller Doc's, but they have smoother soles. And the Corcorans were cheaper.
