i know this has already been done, but i want a thread that's not locked for no good reason.

borland isn't bad, but it's not good either.

sure, you get lots of guns, and get to shoot a lot of things, but that's ALL i was doing. i was bored half the time. the only part i was looking forward to was killing the final boss and getting some kick-arse loot.

sadly all i ended up doing was shooting a giant eyeball for a straight 5 minutes without talking much, if any, damage. seriously, i hid behind a fucking rock every few seconds to dodge its attacks.

i know people are going to have a go at me for hating an fps because it's an fps, but i LOVE shooters. halo wasn't bad, loved fallout3/oblivion, half life 2 wasn't a waste of time, and i'm an avid l4d fan, but i just felt kind of cheated with this game.

anyone else?

I'll agree with you OP. I thought Borderlands did suck a bit on the single player side of things. But I think the game was geared more towards multi-player than single player.

see, that's the kicker- the multiplayer i was looking forward to was me and three guys getting in my way and nicking my loot. it was like the adoring fucking fan all over again

I dunno, C++ Builder was pretty rockin' back in the day.

I remember installing that off floppy disks as well. 90 of the bastards.

And you youngin's whine about having to swap DVDs occasionally.

my friends have given up on it, one playthrough and they're done. i was going to try the other classes, but i physically can't bring myself to do it. i started a new run on fo3 to try and remember what a barren wasteland game is meant to be like.

In my opinion it's a top notch shooter. But lacks as a RPG. The story poor. The guns are great. But my freinds don't have it. so i have to play with ppl i don't know

That's the trouble with public games, you never know what kind of players you'll have with you. That's why I tend to play Co-op with people from my friends list. (And calling dibs via the headset is the way to go - unless they're also gun/loot hogs.)

I think its a fantastic game, my only issue is with dodgy critical hit area (I'm a sniper!).

Yes, always read what other peoples opnions are before you form your own, becaue everyone all likes the same stuff. :/ Borderlands is a good game though. Much better than MW2 or AC2, although not quite as good as Uncharted 2.

I like it.

Don't get me wrong, there are a LOT of things that could be improved. Plot, AI, vehicle controls, physics, blah blah. It's all pretty broken, but i think the kicker for me was that i had to manually open ports on my firewall, and router, AND download a Steam-esque games community thinga to get it working co-op. It sold itself as a co-op game, and anyone who's not computer literate can play it that way (unless you bought it for the seXbox, in which case, bravo, because thats clearly the platform it was designed for).

Oh and the ending. WTH.

Hooray for you, you have an opinion.

Having a go at a shooting game for comprising of nothing but shooting segments is like saying that a driving game would be greatly improved with a narrative (wait...they tried that and it kinda sucked).

The game had it's flaws (and then some) but I felt that all was forgiven by the following:

1- For once I can play a 'apocolyptic watseland' game that isn't Fallout (the Fallout games were good but there does come a point where you do get sick of the oppressive 50's theme)
2- The game was genuinely funny in places (who can honestly say that the boss subtitles didn't make them chuckle at least once?)
3- Shotguns are actually some of the best guns in the game (recently they've always been nothing except backup or reserve weapons in the shadow of the false king otherwise known as the sniper rifle)
4- For once I have played a shooting game with a driving section that actually wasn't too bad (I'm still haunted by Half Life 2's satanic selection of vehicles)

When you said that you were sitting in silence and just playing while not having fun I think you've found the cause of your problem there. I don't think Borderlands is the kind of game that you can sit down for an evening and play straight faced (doing so will oly result in you getting pissed off and hurling expletives at the screen), in my opinion you're supposed to play it in a light hearted manner, preferably with friends.

The total lack of any real dialogue or exposition supports this, after all, if you and a friend are sitting there playing together and having idle banter, do you really want to stop because a cutscene or major plot point comes up?

Borderlands strikes me as a game you have to be more laid back about (not nessercarily a 'casual' game though).

That's all very well... if there wasn't a massive problem with the multiplayer. They fail to mention any where the port opening required to actually host a game and even then you sometimes still couldn't join for no good reason! Then again maybe they fixed this now... i gave up playing pretty early on. The most fun thing i found to do on it was to find features they had ripped off of other games!

Borderlands was good. It wasn't a main game to play like tf2 would be to me, it'd be something on the side for something different.

I've never had that problem. (yet.) I guess the devs had that problem licked on the X box version.

I enjoyed Borderlands. I enjoyed the nods towards other games [Mainly Warcraft with its tiered weaponry system aka white-green-blue-purple-orange, and its bug like race of creatures that sound very similiar to the Sythilid], I enjoyed the nods towards pop-culture [killing the leader of Jaynistown, Jaynis Kobb. Sound familiar to a certain cancelled Sci-fi Western anyone?], I enjoyed the weapons, I enjoyed the boss fights. Apart from the last few. Developers have forgotten that the bigger the boss is, the easier it is to find something to hide behind and potshot to death.

I killed the Rakk hive without moving once from the side of the mountain, and the last boss/ending was the kick to the balls that made me go "oh, so perhaps it isn't all that good after all"

Good game, let down by the last bosses and lack of drive for multiplayer.
