Considering all the positive comments about the PC version my conclusion is....
The game hates YOOOOOUUUUU! Blargh.
It worked just fine for me too.

oooh lulz, who would have guessed?Dr. Gorgenflex said:Ya, the PC version is basically a console port, it kind of sucks.
Public games I think it is like that, but if your friended with someone they can join anytime they want with an invite (well atleast i know it wokrs like that in private games)Worgen said:Id say multiplayer is an after thought since it doesnt seem like you can just drop into a game, you have to form a party before the fact, at least thats how it seems, I havent been playing it much because of the aformentioned crashing issueAcaroid said:Well the scroll text is because it is a console port.Worgen said:I got borderlands for the pc for xmas and so far its doing everything it can to make me hate it. The interface is suprisingly clunky the mouse wheel doesnt scroll text, it seems to like crashing on start up and multiplayer seems to almost be an afterthought. When it actualy works the gameplay seems really good but it seems to really hate the players. Has anyone else with the pc version had this stuff or does the game really just hate my machine?
How is multiplayer an afterthought? yeah the port forwarding is a pain and doesnt have simple thing like showing ping, but the problems with it are because... it is a console port.
The mouse sensitivity is screwed, but im lucky enough i can fine tune my mouse DPI so it isnt so bad.
I do have some problems now and then with some graphic problems, and the game hates SLI, but other than that it works ok and Im having a ball with it XD
It's never crashed for me, and the only real problem I have ever had is that the mouse moves frustratingly slow in menus.Worgen said:I got borderlands for the pc for xmas and so far its doing everything it can to make me hate it. I know in the console version you can join people in game public and private(you need an invite in private though) so it might be a PC only thing if it actually doesn't allow you to.Acaroid said:Public games I think it is like that, but if your friended with someone they can join anytime they want with an invite (well atleast i know it wokrs like that in private games)Worgen said:Id say multiplayer is an after thought since it doesnt seem like you can just drop into a game, you have to form a party before the fact, at least thats how it seems, I havent been playing it much because of the aformentioned crashing issueAcaroid said:Well the scroll text is because it is a console port.Worgen said:I got borderlands for the pc for xmas and so far its doing everything it can to make me hate it. It's even worse when you play it on the PC with a 360 controller.Kajin said:This was a game designed for console and so little has been done to make it PC user friendly that its practically a giant middle finger to anyone who buys it for anything but console.
You just answered your own question as to why multiplayer is an afterthought. They could have used Games for Windows or Steam, but they chose to use a program that was horrible ten years ago. And don't forget, there are enough console ports that actually work properly(Gears of War, Batman AA, Fallout3, X-Men Origins and yes, they have some problems but they're at least playable without major problems)Acaroid said:How is multiplayer an afterthought? yeah the port forwarding is a pain and doesnt have simple thing like showing ping, but the problems with it are because... it is a console port.
The reason or the ? is that the problems I listed are things you dont normally look for in a console game and can get away with it. So many things in the game make it obvious multiplayer isnt a 2nd thought, it just wasnt well thought through for the PC though. Look at the fact you can swap and use characters from multi- single, The way anyone can accept quests, no matter where the party is, the count down for changing areas (which can be cancelled easily), you can spawn 2 cars (what would be the point of that in single player), the way classes are balance to fill in the weaknesses for each other (even though a bit un-balanced when dualing) etc etc etcFlour said:You just answered your own question as to why multiplayer is an afterthought. I have good memories from Neverwinter Nights. GameSpy worked flawlessly back then. And it still does, for NwN.Worgen said:yeah gamespy is a massive piece of shit, the only games Ive seen it on aside from borderlands have been games that dont expect people to actualy play them multi-player. Dont know what gearbox was thinking when they added it, even games for windows live would be better.Nmil-ek said:In two words?
Gamespy lol.
