I am gonna get this train wreck a rollin with the obvious comparisons to Fallout 3

They are both Wasteland FPS RPGs with some cool guns

Actually, Borderlands is an FPS RPG but Fallout 3 is an RPG FPS
Borderlands is an FPS at heart with lots of RPG elements. Your level matters, you will do quests for items and you change your character's colors
Fallout 3 is an RPG at heart with lots of FPS elements. You aim and shoot, you have some tricky run and gun sections and you will find some pretty cool boomsticks

Borderlands is as much an RPG and Fallout 3 is an FPS and vice-versa

Starting here I will use and standard issue review format to compare the two games

Visuals
F3: Nothing too special here, good graphics but not writting home about them
BO (yes haha BO): Stunning cel-shading, all because the original trailer was too frickin boring. Kudos
DING
F3:0 BO:1

Gameplay
F3: Not very much focus, mostly on story
BO: smooth shooting and funky guns just add to it
DING
F3:0 BO:2

New and Different
F3: VATS, Well implemented GURPS, you can actually do anything (as long as what you want to do is kill friendly citizens)
BO: 6 million + guns, xp per kill on screen stuff, cool RPG implementation
DING
F3:1 BO:2

Story
no explanation necessary
Borderlands was cool, but the new game + smells like a lack of content to me (was still awesome though)
DING
F3:2 BO:2

Due to the tie, I am bringing it to the menial "don't actually matter things"
Achievements, Publicity and Music
F3: You need to play the game like 3 times for all the achievements, boo
BO: All achievements fun and the special ones clever, "and they'll tell 2 friends" is well circulated with a fantastic matchmaking system
DING
F3:2 BO:3

F3: Not much really
BO: 2 of the greatest trailers I have ever seen and then the awesome claptrap things
DING
F3: 2 BO:4

F3: Nothing very notable
BO: Cage the Elephant and Champion as well as helpful combat music that always seems apropriate
DING
F3:2 BO:5

So my arbitrary win meter says that Borderlands wins

Borderlands had 3 major selling points all with warrants
1) "87 Bazillion guns"
The number of guns is truly awe-inspiring. They are unique and the special guns feel worth it
2) "4 player co-op"
OK, so Co-op isn't new but Borderlands does it better than any game... Every, except for maybe L4D
3) "FPS and RPG seamlessly combined"
They followed through. Unlike some FPS RPGs, when you beat the game, then go back to the beginning with your epic character, you actually find it laughably easy. Making your character unique is easy and if you make a boo-boo, you can fix it for a nominal fee

Conclusion: Borderlands is one of the best games of all time, let alone this season. It deserves GOtY more than anything I have seen. Buy it for what ever console you have and I promise it will be worth it

First of all, write in the title that you are comparing fallout and borderlands.

Second, this list is stupid. It's not organized well enough, and comparing Fallout 3 with Borderlands is not needed. Now you might say "Hey, they are both RPS's! (role playing shooters).

Fallout 3 is not an RPS. It's an RPG game. The focus is on exploring, story, and characters. Borderlands is an FPS with a leveling system. The story is barely fucking there, but the FPS gameplay is very good. In short, an RPS is a sub-genre to FPS based on Borderlands, and so the games are basically two different genres that shouldn't be compared.

Third, Borderlands having a better co-op than almost any other game is very debatable. At least tell us fucking why it's much better than anything else. The details in this "review" or "comparison" is really lacking and seem, like many reviews where they just briefly go over points, unprofessional. And what the fuck happened at the end when you where breaking the tie? You didn't give the last two competitions any title. Which brings me to number four.

Fourth, your stupid fucking tie-breaker. There are more achievements in Fallout, hence there is more replay-value to be found. Are you saying that less achievements is better? That's stupid, and means that you only care about the points and not the fun of completing achievements. And comparing trailers? What has that have to do with anything? And that final one is just stupid, because you don't give any details about the music in fallout.

And finally, there is a distinct lack of criticism for Borderlands. What about the fact that the story is boring to follow and that it's not explained enough? What about the fact that out of all the "87 bazillion" guns there are basically under 30 weapon-designs with different colors and stats?

Really bad review, or whatever you wanna call it. I love Borderlands and it's really fun, but it's not without criticism.

I'm sick and tired of all the comparisons made with Borderlands and Fallout 3. It's fucking stupid, it's like Comparing MGS to CoD, yea, they are sort of similar, but who the fuck cares?

Borderlands isn't great in Co-Op. You just get a brick screaming in your face or someone else killing everything for you. And the matchmaking thing is a joke, you need to open many many ports to even host a server. It's a brilliant game though, i'm enjoyinh the gameplay. But with a game with seemingly no end, i get bored of in time. Just like Fallout3.

I disagree, the african style action music I hear while in combat is great. But when a lvl 2 Pup Skag bites me in the arse with me being lvl 20 and then starting the action music does not seem to be apropriate.

Borderlands is a great game and I don't think it is even comparible to Fall Out 3

Please, no more comparisons of Borderlands and Fallout 3. I have both, they're, but at different things.

I love borderlands but it Is COMPLETELY different from fallout three.

To pick the better one.

Fallout 3 the story was so well developed OUTSIDE the main storyline which was dull. I spent hours delving into the history of fallout and there is so much MONDBLOWING stuff to find.
