Hey all, summer has come around and I'm trying to lose some of the weight I gained over the exam period.

At Uni I plan to start Boxing so I figured I'd start the roadwork and core exercises now.

Now here is my snag. I have no clue where to start.

I know that running, dieting and stuff is good, but in what amounts and what exercises in particular?

Well I think you should drink a glass of eggs every day, as well as run up the steps of the Philadelphia art gallery and punch slabs of meat.

In all seriousness have you tried your yellow pages for a personal trainer listing?

I'd recommend building up cardio if you plan to be any good.
Boxing and MMA require a lot of energy to do, from my experience. Other than that, I'd get a boxing trainer or take a class and ask what types of exercises you should do, or get a personal trainer and have him work on stuff needed to box.

Buy yourself some 3, 5, and 8 pound weights. Preferably neoprene-sheathed. Grip will come in handy.

Now get yourself the soundtrack to Kick Ass. For at least 25 minutes just punch the air, changing between weights as you see fit. You'll shed a solid five pounds in a week at least. Make sure you slam down AT LEAST 10 glasses of water a day. That'll help a lot.

Cut beer and soda out of your diet immediately.

get yourself a punching bag and punch away. Work on your movement and balance. Try out some quick exercise with the bag like quick punches to the bag will doing high knees then switch to a flat footed stance and pound away at the bag with big hooks and straights. Do each one for a good 30 or 40 secs, and then do them over again if you like. Also remember to work not just your upper body, but you abs as well. start off with average sit ups, then mix it up. Bring your feet off the ground and crunch. rock both legs side to side and don't let them touch the floor. if crunches become a little easy, grab a weight and hold it close to your chest, and do crunches with that. It will add some challenge to it.
