I'm all for not educating minors on titties, but this I don't buy. This may sound bitter, but I'm really looking forward to the time when most of the "think of the children" crowd is six-feet under.
You'll never get your wish. There will always be a 'think of the children' crowd. They may die or focus their wrath on another media, but the ranks are reestablished with every generation.

Movies, comic books, tv, explicit rap lyrics, video games, now porn. Think of the children will be rallying cry of the stupid for generations to come.

As an 18 year old who lives for around half of the year at his parent's house, what would I do? Write to the provider myself? Ask my parents to do so? And will my uni be kind enough to do this for the accomodation provided connection?

This would never work anyway, I very much doubt there's a foolproof way they could block all of the porn availible on the net and there's got to be work arounds any sort of block too.

this is just the thin end of the wedge, first its internet porn, then its violent images, then its anything not sanctioned by the board.
WONT SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!
I am... Give them some free will...
True, If they have the Know-How and manage to get into a site unnoticed then let them have their "Fun"

the only way you'll be able to look at the boobs online is to go on record with your internet provider admitting that you are, in fact, a porn hound.
I thought that people freely admitted to this anyways?
But would you be willing to request such a thing relatively publicly, with your real name? Also, what if you just want access back to websites with adult content that isn't necessarily porn? (Maddox's website would be a good example as it has been banned in several countries). Even if one does freely admit to everyone (who knows how public this information would be, or what they'd do with it, like have witch hunts for pederasts), then there's public pressures and public opinion to deal with, since the folks who choose to opt out of the program would probably be painted as filthy perverts.

You know those things you just can't see happening? This is one of them. Here's to hoping ISPs kick up fuss about it, say it's impossible or something. Someone has to call them out on this. I mean, it's months until April 1st.

So whats to stop them from going back to porno mags then? Or books with sexual content, like the Karma Sutra?

I find it ironic that the people calling for the government to "protect" our children are the same ones calling for an end to big government...

I definitely agree with Killock on this one. It's just a way for the government to impose censorship without seeming like the bad guy. It's a terrible idea, and parents need to stop making everyone but themselves responsible for their children.

its up to the parents not the government. they must be bored or something
They're trying to make the parents feel they aren't useless, which is silly to anyone who understands anything about the internet. This has been tried before, it's fucking impossible.

Parents should be in charge of protecting their own children, not try to pass the job onto the government and end up making everyone else's life more difficult or annoying. Glad I don't live in the UK, with their government trying to treat the country like children.

Of course, it'll probably catch on in the US eventually...
Way too late for that. The whole concept of "But we must protect the children!" has been one of the strongest and most successful political ideologies over the last 20 years. It's ludicrous, but no one wants to take responsibility for themselves, which is really rather depressing.

I'm just gonna go save a few things... just in case...

But seriously, this is ridiculous, apart from the obvious embarrassment of having to phone up some government employee, and demand access to pornography, adults are just getting way to protective of kids. I mean at this rate its gonna be mandatory for children to wear helmets, knee pads and Kevlar vests 24/7 and there will have to be at least two government sanctioned minders to watch every child like a hawk.

This is late. The ISPs already told them it was a stupid idea and an impossible task.
