(My British Parliament-speak isn't as good as it used to be, but as far as I can tell, that's a really, really polite "probably not").
Replace "probably not" with "No way. And stop pestering us." and you'd be closer.

Why is it that everyone wants to pony up on games? Makes no sense. I will be glad in 10 -15 years half these people will be dead and we won't have to deal with their bullshit anymore. Than maybe we can move on to hating something else, probably hologram sex sims or something newage like that.

Its just video game's turn to be the evil thing corrupting our society, Movies, Tv, Comics, rock and roll, and a million other things were at one point called the destroyers of innocence.

Here's an idea keith if your so concerned over childrens safety why not protect them from their moronic parents that are buying the games for them?

Oh but of course it's always someone or something else's fault for shitty parenting isn't it never the parent/s themselves.

Wait...

Us English people actually say Right Hon. Gentleman?!

Oh, and something about videogames too. But really?
They do in Parliament. It's kind of a tradition.

But anyway...

The last time he tried this, the Speaker said something along the lines of "don't bring your Daily Mail-inspired, panic-mongering sh!t in here." No really, the Speaker mentioned the Daily Mail (well, it might have been another tabloid) and accused Vaz of panic mongering over a non-issue. And there's one of the reasons I quite like this country.

In general, though, British stores are pretty good at age-restricted products. Personally, I've never known a single shop that's sold games to underaged kids. That's saying nothing for parents who buy their kids these games, but then, as any sensible person will say, that's a parenting issue, not a political one.

No.
You know what we need a debate on? Parents these days, who lack any type of control over their children and are afraid to deny them even the slightest thing because that might make them feel bad!
If you are a parent who doesn't want your child exposed to these kind of games, DON'T FRIGGIN' BUY THEM. And please contact some people in the parliament with that sentiment, before we'll get politicians taking another step on the road of complete and utter censorship of every form of media, because god forbid children are exposed to anything else than a worldview that paints everything as friggin' rainbows!
*/End barely coherent rant*

Seriously, this BS again? how about a debate on football, that makes people violent and angry, theres so much video evidence for it youd be there for months.

Or for that matter, why are they not focusing on more important matters like say THE MASSIVE DEBT CRISIS THE TORYS KEEP BSING THEIR WAY THOUGH?

Id mock this kinda thing normally, but considering the whole world might implode in the near future, is this really the time to be doing this crud? Or maybe because they keep doing this crud, the worlds about to implode...

Based on his theory I'm currently going to into the city and beating the hell out of the local crime syndicate because I was bought Streets of Rage as a child.
I used to play serious sam. How the hell am I going to do that in real life?
Well, I used to play Ms. Pac Man: Maze Madness when I was a boy. Trying to recreate that would not only be impossible, but also very embarrasing.
But at least the music would be catchy:
Oh, wait, I also loved Quake III. Hmm, that would just be impossible, not as embarrasing. But the music wouldn't be as catchy, as one of Quake III's songs is literally a bunch of people screaming.
OT: Why don't these people ever learn? Jack... crap, I can't even remember his last name, and it's only been a few months, never succeded at this, so why should this Vaz character be any different.
I'm serious about the Jack thing. What was his last name again?

While harsh this is true. I also wonder how many of these people have even played a video game cause I bet it's in the single fingers.

Yes, I 100% agree we shouldn't let children play games rated for people over 18.

That's why we take measures to make sure children don't play games: such as heavy fines.

I hate this shit, Video games won't be banned, they won't be censored. Video games are the most profitable source of entertainment (MW3 proved that) they won't be stopped. These sorts of articles I find are just for laughing at dumb people.

Dear Keith Vaz.

The law states that you can't sell an age restricted game to a person below that age. Your argument is invalid.

thankfully keith vaz has been doing this for so long now it's almost parody. his use of research is fine but he's using it for his agenda and omitting all the facts.

thankfully there's still enough sensible people in English politics to ignore him yet shockingly he's remained an MP. Awful

Why does every developed nation need to have its own personal Jack Thompson or Michael Atkinson? I wish they'd all sod the fuck off and deal with real problems.

Why does it have to be a labor MP?! For god sakes, it's individual idiots like this is why we got the Damned moronic blasted Tories in power!
Really... I thought most modern country's had grown most of the idiots out of it these days - games don't cause violence, they never will. If they stimulate a part of the brain that provokes violence, I think the point is that there's a part to stimulate so easily in the first place! They're a ticking time-bomb to go as it is, if a game stimulates it so they don't go on a rampage, then hell I'm content!

I know it's not as simple as that, but more people die from vending machines than they do from gamers gone psycho every year, so really... I think they should simply leave the issue to rest.

Good God, a politician wants to bring up debate on the possibility of violence-inducing effects of videogames?!?! What a shocking event! Seriously, this happens so often it feels like it's on repeat. All Mr. Vaz wants to do is look like he's doing something about a supposed "problem." It most likely won't come to anything, so it's not worth getting angry over. However, it is worth getting angry about if it becomes pursued in a serious manner.

Religions have been around for millenia. People have followed them for generations.
Books, likewise. Books are treasured and protected.
Music has existed since the dawn of mankind. Everyone is aware of its power.
Film/television has existed for over a century now. The oldest men alive remember watching them as young.
Games exist for just over a generation. The first kids to grow up playing games are coming of age now. The first kids to grow up in a world in which it was common won't come of age for a few more years. They don't have anyone to defend them.
They are an easy target.

Remember this when you are old and you are told of the next thing that's killing our children.
