When will the world learn, DO NOT listen to british tabloids. You get more sense talking to the guy in the piss covered shoes who hangs around in the park all day talking to the dustbin.

How on earth does a sick fuck like that ever get to work on a nuclear submarine?! Don't they have extensive screenings for that or something?
Their screening process is "didn't go on a rampage in boot, probably won't go on a rampage now".

Full article here:

Wasn't the massacre thing only a part of San Andreas? And the article says X-rated game when it is an 18 cert in the UK, but I suppose you have to bend the truth to make it sound better....

Wait a minute! This guy's last name is Donovan, so we can obviously blame American football for this violence as well as games! In fact, the whole EA Madden franchise is to blame for this atrocity and all things associated with it must burn! (/sarcasm)

Seriously, stupid and ignorant tabloid is stupid and ignorant.

Well that's bullocks. The only points you earn from GTA massacres are wanted points, which are more of a hindrance than an encouragement.

OT: Wow, imagine, a tabloid rag uses video-games as a scapegoat for what was clearly the fault of the Navy for hiring someone deranged enough to attempt something like this. Honestly, the British tabloids are even less credible than Fox news.

The only thing this article wants to do is get you angry. For them, angry pissed off people are a form of traffic.

The mirror, the sun, the daily express and the daily mail are the worst papers in the UK.
The type of people that read them aren't exactly going to listen to rational thought on alot of issues. They really are not worth the paper they are printed on....

I'm tired of these articles so I don't have much to say.

I'm just going to point out that, to my knowledge, GTA has never featured a shooting rampage inside a nuclear submarine, so it couldn't possibly have "trained" him to do that...

The mirror is one of the most sensationalist tabloids we have, if a story can be made into a rant about something destroying our kids it will be. The only thing they'd never say a thing wrong about is the labour party.

Um, the only game that had a shooting rampage in a submarine was Medal Of Honor...

Irrelevant, right?

Hereza whacky thought: why don't they blame the British Navy for not having better psych screenings on the kind of people who are going to serve on a fricking nuclear submarine?!

Ugh the bloody Mirror. I'm pretty sure that it was common knowledge that this guy had mental/social issues or something. The fact he was laughing about the thing while talking about it is probably a pretty huge signal that there's mental issues going on there. And GTA doesn't even give you any kind of reward for going on killing sprees anyway.

Why do people who don't know any better always say "you rack up points when killing innocents" when you don't. Infact running over civilians and shooting them is very detrimental to progress since there's now waves and waves of police officers after you? Okay yeah randomly they drop a wad of 3 dollars but really.

I think the latest 'game over-thinker' episode 'supreme responsibility' has something to say about this. Not going to link to a competing site, but those who are interested I'm sure can find it....

Essentially aren't we fed up of having the same argument with the same papers / critics.

Maybe the person the murderer confided in, that he planning a massacre, should be answering some questions. Instead of getting nice interviews. Like why he did not alert anyone to his friend being a psycho.

The article isn't entirely correct. Following the logic of the newspaper header, it should say, " 'I'LL DO A GRAND THEFT AUTO STYLE MASSACRE' GUN SAYS", and the article should continue along the following lines:

"Tragedy struck when a gun of known description began firing at crewmen on-board a submarine" etcetera.

It's not the gun that kills people, it's not the beer that causes car accidents, and it's not video games that go about performing heinous acts of violence. Instead, it's respectively, "people with mental disorders," "stupid people", and "stupid people with mental disorders."

It's just terrible that it takes tragic events such as these to garner peoples attention. But then again humans are rather silly creatures prone to do the silliest of things, such as voice their opinion through medium of text on an internet forum populated by individuals of whom many are directly connected with the forum's very name.

..........seriously?!
Ok,
A. They gave a man who was clearly mentally unstable a gun, what the hell did they think was going to happen?
B. If video games make people more violent, then why are we living in statistically the least violent time in history, with violent crime rates slowly decreasing by the year?
Oh wait, that's right, the media doesn't give a damn, because fear sells >_<

So if i say, "Im planning a medieval style wedding", does that mean were going to burn a woman alive for being a witch, and eat everything that isnt soup with our hands?

What about a "Roman Style building"? Does that mean it will be full of orgies, wine, and possibly bloody combat?

Or how about saying "Your on fire"? Does that mean im a pyromaniac?

Yes, you can plan something like a video, but that doesnt mean you blame the videogame because its the only thing he could relate it to.

Not to mention, you dont get "points" in grand theft auto for killing people. There is no "Points" mechanic in the game. I honestly doubt this guy didnt even play GTA, or he wouldnt mention "points".
