Need a bit of elemental damage in there for fighting ghosts, and I guess my favourite element is just lightning. I could have said someone like Zapdos or something, but I think those birds are overrated.
If you want an electric type special attacker, you go with Jolteon. Raichu's garbage. Even pikachu has superior attacking stats if it has a light ball.

And for countering ghost types, an electric type attacker isn't especially effective. Something with an actual type advantage like a dark type or a steel type would help.

I disagree. If you evolve Pikachu after about lv40 once he at least knows Thunderbolt and Double Team (learn Thunder via TM or something later) he keeps Pikachu's great speed and Double Team can really keep you in a tough fight. He is my first choice for an Electric type with Magneton coming a close second since him being a Steel type really fucks with anything that isn't a Fire type.
Magneton outclasses Raichu so hard it's not even funny. Pikachu has a 90 base speed which barely grazes decent, and Raichu doesn't fare much better.

Raichu is frail, relatively slow, and lacks any decent type coverage. It's ultimately a subpar choice no matter how you look at it.

Also, use of Double Team is banned in any reputable Pokemon community.

Why? Because it makes you harder to hit? Do they also ban Sand-Attack?

You had a good thing going with Scizor and Gyarados. But then you had to throw a wrench into everything with Magmortar and Druddigon.
In hindsight, replacing Magmortar i'd have probably gone with Electivire instead and Bisharp instead of Druddigon

When you use double team, the game becomes a crapshoot. Actual strategy and gameplay gets thrown out the window, and the game becomes one guy spamming an attack hoping to connect, while the other guy spams double team hoping he doesn't connect.

Sand Attack isn't banned as the pokemon with lowered accuracy could just be switched out and switched back in.

But doesn't it just teach players to pack someone with an auto-hit move like Shockwave?

Then the entire game would just be people using double team, and people using swift variants.

It just ruins varied or interesting gameplay.

1-Ninetails
2-Ampharos
3-Flygon
4-Lucario
5-Samurott
Legendary-The original and still one of the best, Mewtwo.

Most of my favorites, a team with a good resistance coverage, and two canines? Yeah, works for me.

Gen 1: Magneton
Gen 2: Typhlosion
Gen 3: Gardevoir
Gen 4: Lucario
Gen 5: Hydreigon
Legendary: Lugia

I can probably stand up to most types of attacks.

Gen I - Aerodactyl

Gen II - Kingdra

Gen III - Metagross

Gen IV - Porygon-Z

Gen V - Cofagrigus

Legendary - Dialga

Chosen not necessarily because they are strong (or not), but because I just really like them.

...damn I love fanart.

Gen 1: Chansey - Can take plenty of punishment, a stalling tactic in an offensively-focused team.
Gen 2: Forretress - Can lay traps and get rid of the enemy's, making it very useful tactically.
Gen 3: Salamence - Fast and powerful. Excellent stats, being a pseudo-legendary.
Gen 4: Garchomp - Another pseudo-legendary, the Swords Dance/Outrage combo deals ridiculous damage.
Gen 5: Volcarona - A rare powerful bug-type, Quiver Dance and a high SpAtk stat makes it very dangerous.
Legendary: Mewtwo - Ridiculous SpAtk stat and a huge move set.

Aren't they Second gen types? I was going only first gen. Also I simply like Raichu more than any other Electric type, in my mind it's pretty badass.

Lastly, what's a light ball?
