Because unscrambling words and figuring out the next number in a pattern quickly is very important in game development, right?

So what do they consider high? 150? They need "Genius" level IQs to program for PS3?? Ok so probably not that high.

Anyway, definitely an odd thing to require but I guess it can make sense. IQ doesn't really help in many situations like doing general commons sense or "street smart" but it doesn prove good math and analytical/logical, problem solving skills which are great for programmers.

They want a developer who knows C# to work on PS3 stuff? I thought C# was basically a Microsoft technology. Is the PS3 running on Windows or something?

Maybe they should have hired people with high IQ before signing with Activision. It's too late now!

Although at least the high IQ thing should weed out any people who would take their console to Best Buy for $30 firmware update service.

(Yes I know IQ =/= intelligence, but let me have my jokes dammit)

Looking for people with high IQ eh? Take it they are trying to replace the retarded chimps that farted out the Halo series then.

Doesn't everyone put their IQ on their resume anyway?

I do.

Should I stop?
Don't listen to all the nay-sayers. If you've got a high IQ you should put it prominently on your resume, preferably in a 72 point font. That way, future employers will not be surprised by your subtle and understated genius.

They don't want business heads? Expert programmers? No, they want high IQ. I mean, what? I guess they want those things, and a high IQ. Which makes... zero sense.

I think folks are being a touch too... literal, I think is the right word, about this. After all, we're talking about a game studio whose official mission statement includes world domination as a stated goal. (Escapist staff can dig up old Bungie press releases and see for themselves.)

It could be a way to say they're looking for smarts and creativity in their SDET team, or it could be a shot at the PS3's Cell architecture or something.

No, but it's a reasonably good test of certain spatial and analytical reasoning skillsets. Which seems like a fairly reasonable thing to look for in a programmer.
Yep, I got a high IQ and people think I'm a dumbass.

Though I do do mathematical equations for fun...

... Maybe it's the TYPE of intelligence that is important.

Not a bad idea, really, as the aptitude tests have a tendency to focus on spatial reasoning and critical awareness, which both sound like good things to ask for of a developer. I kinda see it as them asking for a sample of artistic creativity of a designer. Unnecessarily silly? Maybe, but hey, first time beyond just the xbox, after all.

I kinda get the feeling that Bungie is one of the only game studios that gets low IQ applicants at all.

and really what does having a high iq have to do with coding now or beta testing?
..aptitude for finding clever abstractions, ability to think in different layers, an understanding of methodology as well as interpretation of data..

If high IQ means something like that, then it has everything to do with this type of job.

..well.. on second thought, I don't think I've actually seen "high IQ" mean anything like that, ever.

I'm glad they're going multi-platform. I'm also glad Metal Gear Solid is going multi-platform.
I may have console fanboys of every flavor beating down my door because of this view, but I don't think anyone should have to miss out on a great game because they don't have the capital to fork over for another game system. I'd actually love to see more of this. How about PS3 and XBox versions of some Wii games? You wouldn't even have to give it a graphical upgrade to make me happy, and it beats the hell out of crappy PS2 ports from Wii.

When they take over the world, they'll need people with High IQ to keep the world in order of course. Silly non-believers...

To me it sounds like Bungie's sense of humor rather than a serious requirement

this is the developer that has a section of there office dedicated to world domination schemes

science has proven that IQ isn't everything. It's starting to approach almost worthless.

Congratst, you're 20 years behind.
