...I don't get the joke. Are MMO's seriously still hated by the rest of the gaming community? Besides an "action" MMO sounds awesome. Ah well, still got dark millennium out in 2013... :D

It's okay, David Aldridge, I knew you were joking. I mean it's fairly obvious that now that Halo is out of the way, Bungie is focusing on finally presenting to the world the long-awaited and simultaneously genre-smashing and genre-defining Pimps At Sea, right? Right?

"We're making an MMO." "No we are not!" "Yes we are!!" "Just kidding guys we are not." Bungie seems confused, being outside their generic, bland comfort zone must be affecting their minds. This nonsense just confirms that Bungie don't know what they are doing, and never really did. Anyway, Bugie get back to Generic Console Sci-Fi FPS #26, nobody cares about you anymore, at least no one that enjoys content and story, how many other games have to rely on books sold separately to flesh out their world? Sad... Die in a fire Bungie.
jeez dude. i know everyone's entitled to their opinion and whatnot but this just looks like flamebait.

personally i'm glad they're going to stay out of the mmo market: after marathon and halo, i don't think i could imagine something besides single player.

Cool edgy opinions on a quality developer bro.

However, and I'm gonna have to call you out on this, at what point did Bungie actually say that they were going to do an MMO, excepting, of course, when they did the joke announcement? From what I have, albeit very swiftly, researched, Bungie has only made a few broad statements about the future and the Halo franchise in general - nothing really there about MMO-based indecision at all.

I'm glad Bungie have given the rights away. I'm just looking forward to their next game. I don't think they'll confirm anything for a long time.

Yeah, Bungie should totally stop working on Halo. They should give up the rights to the IP and sign up with a completely different publisher who will have them work on something else altogether.

Oh wait, they did.
;-;

I met indefinitely - like EVERYONE, if we just all ignore it, it might stop..
Halo Reach worse than ODST? I want some of whatever you've been smoking :p

There are millions of people who disagree with you on the point that nobody cares about Bungie, but what do they know, after all, we all know that to qualify as "something people care about" you need at least a BILLION people

The books are supplementary, just like the ones for Mass Effect, would you say Bioware should die in a fire too? Making one PR mistake hardly means they have no idea what they were ever doing making games, that's like saying if you trip and fall you never knew how to walk, ever.

also debatable..

You finished that achieve for campaign on legendary alone? ¬_¬

Atleast ODST has 3's multiplayer!!
First off Reach has awesome multiplayer, but that opinion aside.

Is having Halo 3's multiplayer really a point in ODST's favor? After all, it is HALO 3's multiplayer, not ODST's multiplayer. At least Reach brought something new to the table.

There seem to be quite a few game companies doing the whole "This was a joke, honest guys!" thing lately.
Indeed. We didn't actually want people to molest our workers and give gamers everywhere a bad name! It was a joke!~

Maybe it is just a cover-up, but if they were planning on making one and then stopped, they probably shouldn't have been at the announce-your-game stage.

Ahhh I see what the fanboi is saying, the story, characters and interest are absent by design from Halo. Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: Wait I got it, the story is coming via some additional DLC!!! This is right up Micro$uck's alley, they will love it. Good job Bungie!!!

A well made Halo MMO would instantly make any computer its on implode into a black hole from sheer AWESOME
Or Red Ring of Death, which ever is most likely, and considering we are talking about Halo. I think it is more the later than the former.
Are you trying to start an argument? Bungie actually does make quality games, and the story is quite interesting, you're entitled to your opinion but flat out insulting other peoples opions wont give yours any more credit

You... You're the one who brought it up. Halo had nothing to do with this thread, and then you went and started talking about Halo. YOU'RE THE PROBLEM SIR

Okay, honestly: What is with the recent trend of everyone and their dog making an MMO? This is getting kind of ridiculous. And yes, I did read the article, so I know that Bungie probably isn`t, but it`s still telling that everyone honestly thought that a Halo (or vaguely Halo-inspired) game was feasible. Really, with WoW still dominating the scene, why do these companies try? To me, it looks like there`s a lot more potential in the single-player market. OR even better: Local multiplayer. That`s something we haven`t seen much of in the last little while.
It's probably for a couple reasons:

1. MMOs have the potential for lot of steady revenue.

2. WoW is over 6 years old and as such, it's based on old technology and design. For a top-notch developer, it's not that hard to design combat that is more interesting and better executed than WoW. It's not hard to make a world that looks better and more polished than WoW's. It's not that hard to make a better class system or more exciting raids and battlegrounds. WoW set the standard in the last half of the last decade, but now is the time to move forward.

Already, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 are promising much better and more dynamic experiences in various areas. I think what we're going to see very soon is an MMO market with more variety, more competition and no giant, aging behemoth to discourage innovation.

W..wait...do you genuinely think that Bungie is actually a bad developer?
Would you care to define a 'good' developer then?
Y'know, just so that all of us lesser life forms can appreciate your masterful and, obviously, incredibly intricate -nay, positively labyrinthine- thought processes.
