See...it's funny because someone being a mouthy asshole actually got some comeuppance for a change.

I don't condone any of the behaviour exactly. But it does appeal to the part of me that despises how we, as a society, let people like this become absolute social-monsters by our inability/unwillingness to correct them. Fear is a powerful motivator. Sometimes "could you be nice please?" isn't.

Okay, FORGET that it was a guy hitting a girl. Fact is one individual was being a total douche to another individual and once they pushed too far there was obvious retaliation. "But she was a female and the guy shouldn't be bothered that much cause it didn't bother me." Okay, look. Just because I, myself can handle being physically and mentally pushed further than the individual above and below me does not mean I have to force my own ideas on them. aka, just I can handle this type of shit, doesn't mean I expect the same of every single person in the world. And from the look of it, threw her out of the bus like a bouncer would throw out a disrespectful drunk from a bar/club.

Dear god, all that screaming, I could not even watch it all, so I just forwarded to the uppercut. That Women is putting all those lives in danger just to get her point across? I don't know... being upset is one thing, but she is just a hysterical, screaming maniac.
I wonder how it all started, what did he do wrong. Trying to make sens of what is being said is hopeless, I could not understand a word except the "n" word, but that seams to be just filler these days in parts of the USA.
I still don't think that violence is an answer, but I wonder if he really had a choice there.
Did she have it coming? Well... yes and no. She was clearly the one who provoked, and he kept calm for some time, so I am unsure about that. Violence can not be an answer... but:
Did he overreact? Without a doubt, the uppercut was too much, but throwing her off the bus was ok - I just wonder if throwing her off would have worked without the uppercut.

the thing is: this man has a responsibility which he can not fulfill is he is being screamed at like that... what kind of pseudo culture is that anyway, where you think it's ok to loose your mind like that and start being hysterical all over traffic? What that video does is make me want to stay away from cleveland traffic as far as possible...

Thank you for your rational words. It's very reassuring knowing that there are people out there who take the situation into a context that's realistic.

Like I was saying with that podcast link, I don't "condone" the violence HOWEVER I understand WHY it happened. Empathy for both sides and realizing that even though two wrongs don't make a right one side DID initiate the situation is the first step for us becoming a more fair and civil society.

Again, understanding the situation and having empathy for both sides DOESN'T mean you condone violence against women NOR does it mean you believe a woman can put hands on another man and get away with it. It simply means that both sides are wrong for different reasons.

One can also be more wrong than the other which is a subjective thing so please resist the urge to force that view on another person. We all draw the line somewhere, and who we are as individuals affects our line.

That said, I think after reading a couple comments, I think Jack the Patato summarized it best.....

The busdriver defended himself within the confinements of the law - the end.

The fact that the bus company suspended him is awful though. I do not get why a bus company would ever choose to decrease safety for their employees like this - it is absolutely distasteful and if I lived in that city, this story would make me never want to use their service again.

And yes he hit a woman. She hit and spat in the face of an old man. So what? If you want real equality here it was one person who provoked another person to a fight, which that first person got. If the first person was not interested in a fight, hitting first and spitting the other person in the face - twice - was probably a rather bad idea and no one should be suprised of the consequences.

She is just lucky that he is a good enough guy not to file a police report for the assault.

You equated her actions to those of a child. Please don't assume I equate the two because I asked you if you did.

A Child (Aged 13) decided to steal another child's bike. He/She knows this is in the wrong, yet does it anyway and gets caught. He/She gets punished, rightfully as they did something that was wrong in our society. They knew their actions would have repercussions, yet they still acted the way they did.

Actions have repercussions, but that doesn't mean just anyone gets to hand them out. I mean, who in your scenario does the punishing?

"Punishment" is generally not equated with "someone striking you." You seem to be carefully picking your words to avoid actually answering my question. Maybe you are bad at explaining things as you say, but that doesn't look like "poor explanation" so much as "guarded words."

He waited to punch her until she was standing away, about a minute after she shoved him, while she was in a relaxed pose. Self-defense is only viable if someone is currently threatening you; if you wait until after the person is no longer threatening you, you're not defending yourself, you're getting revenge.

She's a fucking idiot who needed her ass tossed out, but that doesn't excuse one supposed adult punching another supposed adult.
