So, I bought Dirt 2 on day of realease, loved the first game and now i adore the second, but there is one thing. Leveling up is relativly easy in this game if your a good driver (like me), and after leveling up a bit you unlock new areas to race in and new cars ect.

And acually getting all this is pretty easy, i unlocked all the tracks in about a week or so, but I was looking on the PSN Store and i saw the downloadable content for the game excpecting new cars and tracks, wrong. The downloads costed money and what they where selling came with the game, Unlock all areas and Unlock all cars. Thats pretty pathetic, someone would go pay money to unlock everthing in the game that came free, not only does this make you lose the satisfaction of unlocking things but its practicaly cheating. Burnout Paradice did this too (however I do admit that it takes a long time to unlock all th cars), does this mean that we're all just lazy. I don't get it, who would spend money on something thats free.

So my fellow Escapists, what are your thoughts on this and have you ever baght one of these packs that unlock everything.

[sup]I will admit it i did buy the Burnout Paradice one but the only reason why i did was because I had unlocked all the cars on the 360 and when i got my PS3 i didn't want to take the time to get them all.[/sup]

I personally wouldn't do it. I play games to complete them myself, not to let someone else do it for me. I had no idea they sold stuff like that anyway.

What?
Isn't that what cheat codes are for? Passed around the playground and embedded into to your brain so that 15 or so years later you can remember level select on Sonic and Streets of Rage.

Well, it's just doing what a company does best: sell. They know there's people who do this. I don't neccesarily think it's right and I wouldn't buy the things myself, but I don't hate companies who do this, because it's just them making money. And as long as I can still enjoy the game, i'm happy.

ya i saw that too for blazeblue but i guess that kind of makes sense because i suck at fighters and it was a pain to get all the characters in soul calibur 3 so i would have paid a doller or to too get them.

How much does it cost?

Didn't think of that, I now actually support this kind of "DLC", even if it's not DLC at all.

I already knew about these kinds of things. Chalk that up as yet another part of my childhood murdered mercilessly by society.

It's pitiful, really. Selling the ability to use cheats, unlockables, even video walkthroughs. I truly hate how things have become. What happened to the good 'ole cheat codes of old? What happened to my up,up,down, down, left, right, left, right,b,a,start? What happened to beating the game 18 1/2 times over just to unlock that one badass looking character? What happened to difficulty?

Damn society, why must you kill my childhood so...?

It depends on the game to be honest. The fact is that some games are so bad during single player that they can't be played for more than an hour at a time. In that case it wouldn't be bad unlocking something that came with it and should therefore be either unlocked at the start or unlocked very easily rather than drive 5000000 miles backwards then do a reverse somersault triple backflip with twist onto a man's head while decapitating it with your weapon of choice. When the game has no weapons to speak of.

Shouldn't those kinds of games rot in hell, then? A game should make you WANT to play it for a long, long amount of time. If the single player is so bad that I can't bare to play it for too long, then I'm sending the game back.

I do too miss the Ol' cheat code, it was free too. But I do like the walkthroughs when im stuck and ive already tried thousands of different ways to get through a level, and usually i just watch the walkthroughs just enough to figure out what i was loking for.

DLC is generally very bad. Sure, you sometimes get good DLC, like with Batman or Wipeout, but you usually get bad DLC, like this or costume packs.

If you paid 25 bucks to get alternate colors for the characters in SFIV, then you have done something wrong.

Yea, but that's what the internet is for. That's what Youtube, Mycheats, even IGN are for. Why should we pay the damned developers of the game to figure out how to beat their uber puzzle? Shouldn't they be coaxing us to figure it out on our own? If I'm in need of help, I'll consult the internet. I refuse to give them any more money than necessary; no matter how good the game.

On an unrelated note, I notice "Uber" is underlined in a red squiggly, classifying it as not-a-word. I could have sworn we had decided this was an official word now that it's been used in 2 Commercials. (First some maxi-pad thing, the second Stride referring to their gum as 'uber bubble')

Well Im sure someone with more moeny than sence would do it if they really couldn't be arsed.

If I was a millionair and acctually gave helicopter pilot's arse about Colin Macrae I'd probably buy it.

That brings back memories. That and start,a,b,b,a,a,b,b,a. Also, the level select cheat on Lion King on ye olde Megadrive... which always used to bug us, as you had to do the fiddly bugger more than once, so you didn't end up playing expert mode.

Le sigh...

Seconded!!! What happened to those little books you could buy and then it had like 100 games worth of cheat codes in it? Or old gaming magazines that gave one away with each issue!? WHAT ABOUT THOSE!?

It's a German word, so it requires German spelling. It's still not recognized by my dictionary but at least it's the proper spelling. It's not uber, but über.
