Fallout 1 and 2 are on GoG for 6 bucks each if you want to make your life easy. They come with a DOS emulator already set up for the games.

Good to see that someone corrected Mr. Chalk, I was going to mention the Linux version since that's the one I got. :D

Hmm, a nice surprise actually. I was going to give Wasteland 2 a skip since I have no prior experience with the original, but now I think I'll try and get me a copy. Good move, good move...

I cannot WAIT to see how EA will fuck this up.
Good to see im not the only one that is unhappy about that development bet it will need origin too run
I was sure I'd never get an Origin account.

Then EA and Origin sent me their best wishes and a voucher of sorts for my birthday. Yeah, turns out that old EA account of mine got updownsidegraded into an Origin account. Yay.

You know that you are going into gaming history when you need a DOS emulator. I feel so oooooold. *cry*

What's the status?

Just so you know - I liked Fallout when it was first released in its 640x480 glory, but if you install/play this beauty nowadays, I strongly suggest you get the

'fallout high resolution patch'

...and maybe 'fallout FIXT' is a mod you might want/need, as it takes care of some of the more probable crashes and causes of severe ragequit - such as not being able to kindly ask your team members to step away a bit, so they don't block doorways or cuddle you up into a corner. Good stuff.

But only if it's not already included in the package you got/get, check with your provider or their forums before messing things up.

Playing it these days on Windows 7, using the full resolution of my portable or making good use of the 1080p TV really does make a difference.

Easier than trying to find the floppy discs, I still have a copy of Duke Nukem of a 3 1/2 floppy I could turn into an .exe

I found both games on GoG.com, also bumped into Fallout Tactics... is that any good?

And holy pixels, I forgot how games looked 15 years ago.

I don't even have a computer with a floppy drive. I kinda miss the sounds it made while loading.

Tactics is an old school X-Com/Jagged Alliance clone... More or less. It has a linear mission structure and no research options, but a more detailed combat focus than X-Com. It also suffered from some pretty egregious QA testing. I'd say skip it unless you're a sucker for turn based squad strategy games.

Also, I don't think Fallout needs a Dos Emulator... at least I don't remember running mine in one.

I am really not into RTS games, so I figured that Fallout: Tactics wouldn't be for me. After reading your explanation, I realised that it's DEFINITELY not for me. :D

Found Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 though, I let out a little girly squee. GoG is tugging all my nostalgic heart string.

Yeah that's pretty standard. Same thing happened to me when I found the Heroes of Might and Magic series there along with the Heroes Chronicles spinoff.

This is what you call good customer service EA. Get used to it.
Oh like the time they released the orginal command and conquer for free, or red alert for free, or tibrium sun for free, or gave away red alert 2 with red alert 3. EA is better then most companies in releasing their old games for free or on the cheap.

Fixed that for ya.
You don't run Linux on a PC?

The rights to actually make the game aren't with EA oddly enough. EA sold the trademark sometime in the 90s, to another company, forget who, and they later opted not to renew the trademark, at which point Fargo refiled for Wasteland.
Interesting, I either didn't know that or had forgotten. Thanks for the correction.

Isn't an Apple Mac a Personal Computer?
It's a specifically-branded piece of hardware that runs a proprietary OS. The PC is not.

I am of course just teasing a little bit (and if the line had been "fixed" to say "Windows, Mac and Linux" I wouldn't have a foot to stand on) but this is a game I'm more than happy to play.

On a more serious note, it kind of brings to the fore the question of whether it's time to stop referring to "PC" as a platform, and instead start referring specifically to OS. Think I might start doing that.

Sounds like a good idea there. Granted you weren't wrong PC doesn't refer to the OS but it would just be better to refer to the OSs for clarification purposes.

Actually when it comes to InXile EA are actually being very good. Like I mentioned on my post about this when InXile released The Bard's Tale on iOS they got permission to put the original games in for free. Also who said EA is publishing this?
