After you buy the games you might want to get ahold of the original installations if GoG has messed with the files to update them. I'm unsure if they did. Then install these in order for FO1.

They will add bugfixes and allow high res and widescreen resolutions

For FO2

Bugfixes, expanded content, updated UI abilities, and high res. You could also download the MIB88 mod but that's a real ***** to get working right.
Jeez, all I want to do is play a game... :D

Thanks so much for all this extra tech help, I would have had major problems on my own.

You totally can. This is a great mod list but for F1 I'm pretty sure with the GOG version the updated 1.2 patch is already included, although it's really quick to overwrite the files so it doesn't hurt to do it (make sure you respect the directory structure though). The most interesting one is the fan patch which fixes many annoying bugs you might encounter through the game. The high rez patch just wasn't for me. Play this game on a laptop and you probably don't need it. I just found the ginormous map view made the game seem way more barren than it should and I missed the details. Don't worry though, after the first town the geography and art becomes a lot more interesting. The final mod seems entirely optional to me.

For F2 I would play carefully here. The mods are amazing but they return, or extrapolate a lot of content and really you do run the risk of playing a significantly different game than the one initially created. This is just my opinion but I'd play the original F2 only bug-fixed first, before using the Killap mod.
