When i get around to reading the daily rags over here in England i notice there's a few buzzwords floating around for example, epidemic, people are using that word like it's going out of date.
Another example? ok how about douche bag, every 14-17 English brat that i know uses that word like some sort of insult in a really tacky American Californian(maybe ?) accent , and it really gets on my nerves.

so my question to you escapists is this:

What buzzwords have you heard over the last year that have really got on your nerves? it can anything that you hear over used.

Anyways, recently kids are insulting people by calling them "kid". For example "What's this kids problem?", "What are you doing kid?", and "Shut up, kid." It's weird that they sometimes call people older than them "kid".

I'm sorry, but this bothers me - there is no such thing as an "American accent."
There are numerous accents you'll hear in America, but none that you'll hear all over, I'd wager.

Same with any other place, I guess...

But I try to avoid the news.

I use kid all the time, but not like that. Just as a general substitute for "guys" or "people". Just a casual "Hey kids".

When I got into the sciences, one could use the word "Nano" as a catch-all-funding-magnet. A proposal simply repeating the prefix over and over again would recieve millions of dollars from DOE, NSF, and NIH.

Sadly, it isn't so simple anymore.

Yeah, but only like 100 cases (or less) have been sighted here - hardly an epidemic.

In respect to swine flu. Normal flu strains kill more each year than Swine Flu has, and it's better to contract it now while it's still relatively harmless until a deadly variant evolves.
