Call of Duty: Black Ops Set to Outsell Modern Warfare 2

BUT WHY? I mean, I'll be playing the Black Ops campaign on my roommate's 360, but I expect only a baseline, popcorn thrills CoD campaign experience. I won't even bother with multiplayer, because that hasn't really changed since the original Modern Warfare: it's good, but not good enough to tear me away from Halo: Reach, which will be my FPS multiplayer game of choice for the next year and beyond.

So, WHY ON EARTH are people buying YET ANOTHER Call of Duty? It's been virtually the same game for the past three iterations. A good game, but basically the same.

One could say that about Halo as well, with only a minor health system change and weapon tweaking.

I am just saying.

I dunno why people are saying the series is dead or it's the same game, Treyarc makes much better CoD games in my mind.

World at War had Nazi zombies and dismemberment, I'm sorry did any other CoD recently have that? No. You can just say I'm right and be done with it :|

As embarrassing as it is to admit, this is probably true.

Never shall Activision find themselves in the possession of my hard earned cash, however. Not for CoD game, at least, although the game that parts me from my money had better be effin' spectacular, and even then I'd make a point of buying it preowned so they don't receive it. They can keep their stupid multiplayer to themselves.

I'll definitely be picking up Black Ops. The fact that it's more of the same doesn't bother me. Call of Duty is an excellent franchise, particularly if you're really into FPS like myself and a few of my friends are. The changes that they are making in Black Ops should serve to revive the beaten corpse that is the Call of Duty franchise for at least a year, or more if it doesn't have the same bullshit that MW2 had

I'll say this much:

I am hoping this game dies, and does so in a screaming death that leads to some of the biggest financial losses in the history of the industry.

I have nothing against the series, but I do have some serious issues with the company and it's management, and how it's been treasting consumers. Not to mention how what they get away with is encouraging other companies to duplicate them. I think that the success of this game is going to be bad for gaming in general.

I hope come the final equasion that gamers like you decide not to buy the product, you pull your pre-orders at the last minute, leaving tons of unclaimed (but produced) copies and send the first of a number of messages to the company about it's policies.

The thing is that no matter what you think of the franchise, or the exact group of developers, in the end this all supports guys like Bobby Kotick, and others who emulate them. You can't complain about the things you see going on, when you race out to buy the game "because all your friends will be playing it", and then doubtlessly support all the DLC and other cash gouging stategies.

Saying your going to not buy a game "to make a point" when that game is one you wouldn't have purchused anyway does very little.

I am hoping people realize, and realize soon, that going for a few months without the latest shooter (or other game) is going to have benefits down the road in how the industry operates. There are going to be other shooters, other RTS games, and so on.

Nothing personal here, and I honestly expect that just like "Starcraft 2" people are going to continue their mistakes and run right out to buy the product, while Bobby Kotick not only gloats but gets increasingly worse, as do other game companies who see what he can do and go after more consumer gouging themselves.

Still, with everything he's said and done, and the amount of hatred he's been generating from firing off insults and contempt left and right, it really galls me to hear about the guy raking in another fortune, especially seeing as it's being stated pre-emptively, the company having no doubts that any bad will is irrelevent as people line up for their latest fix.

I just feel it has to be said, and I quoted your message because you mentionted buying the game, and supprting the franchise, when really I think your exactly the kind of person, who along with your friends, should carefully think about what your supporting. In the long run going without your shooter fix here is probably going to do you more good down the road.

I bought MW2, I admit it. I also bought the hilariously overpriced map-packs. That money is the last I shall ever give to a CoD game. I liked IW, they made a damn good series, and CoD4 is still my favorite "semi-realistic" FPS ever, but I am done with CoD now that the original creators are out of the picture. The treyarch games have always left me dissapointed. Not to say they were bad, but they were just always a letdown compared to the IW CoD game the year before.

So no Black Ops for me, thanks. Halo: Reach will meet my online FPS quota for a good long time, and then there's Brink to look forward to.

Of course it will. It got the mind blowingly good multiplayer just with a shit ton more stuff, Plus the campaign in WaW was quite good, so if this measures up then the single player fan should be happy too. It's win freakin' win baby! I've pre-orderd mine. 1 month to go!

I'm against it with the $60 PC retail price, but I'm still kinda considering/debating it... CoD5's campaign was so much better than CoD4's (in my opinion at least), and the multiplayer was about the same. Right now I'm thinking of waiting for a Steam sale and seeing if they do the $15 map packs again. If they do do that, I'll be saving my money...

I don't think it matter anymore whether it's the same game or not. People don't hold story in as much high regard as they used to. They just buy it for the multiplayer nowadays.

I'm getting Black ops because I was really into the multiplayer. And from what I saw of this game, they removed lots of the abusable things I really hated about MW2: One Man Army, Danger Close, Commando Pro, Marathon is no longer unlimited etc.

eh well, my rental may or may not last long enough for me to delve into the multiplayer (but seeing how short FPS single player campaigns are these days, I have more hope for MoH's single player campaign... unless one of their campaigns actually features decent co-op)

Seriously, many of the MW crowd don't even remember that it had CoD in the title.

Still, I'm sure it'll sell extremely well.

However, if the predictions are true, that pretty much means that Treyarch will have to sue their employees to get their part of the revenue.

Thanks for generalizing us, Call Of Duty fans, into one big category of people who obviously game rarely and in small bursts, because if they didn't, they would know how bad the game they like actually is.

Well most people aren't game nerds like us (especially the majority of those who preorder Call of Duty games, no offense guys) so they likely don't even know that Infinity Ward is gone.

When the game sucks, people will start to take notice. Activision can't just toss out Infinity Ward without consequences.
