The kids buying this game weren't old enough to have played treyarch's disappointing Call of duty 3...They don't know its legacy of mediocrity. Not getting it. Kotick can go fuck himself.

I'll reminisce in the happy days of COD2 and Cod4...

If Black Ops outsells Modern Warfare 2, either in first day sales or first month sales, I will eat my own face. You can quote me on that. There's a reason Treyarch was the "B Team".
I will hold you to that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Treyarch's Call of Duty games are infinitely better than Infinity Ward's. The Russian campaign in WaW was just pure genius.

As long as it isn't gonna suck like MW2, it should be pretty good. I won't be buying it, but my brother will so I'll be playing it anyway.

And I hope it features more of those stealthy missions you did with the SAS, those were a lot better than the Marine sections in my opinion.

I love how this is the general opinion now but prior to MW2's release everyone was "WORLD AT WAR SUCKED! TREYARCH SUCKS DICK INFINITY WARD KNOWS HOW TO MAKE CALL OF DUTY!!!1" Funny thing isnt it?

It could be the zombies, or it could just be the brand name really.

With CoD's previous-year sales and rep spreading out as it did, the brand name is now obviously a big bag of cash, regardless of what team handles the development. Not saying Treyarch are bad at what they do, because they seem to have a grasp on several things at least and devoting all of their resources to this project is bound to show, but at this point I think you could put the F-team on this project and it'd *still* sell well enough.

Hell, look at when future WoW expansions started to be worked on by their 'B-team' while they focused on the next-gen MMO. Everyone moaned and bitched at how this would affect sales. But just yesterday it was hello 12-million players mark so...yeah, quality or not, the brand name and general activity is what probably drives these sales now more than anything along with the standard dose of marketing shazzam.

...or it might be the zombies, true. Can't ignore that. :p

Very funny. Though I've consistently preferred Treyarch's CoD to IW's CoD.

Shame that Blops seems to be proving popular. Activision really needed a wake-up call.

Simple. Multiplayer. That's the main damn reason I bought it in the first place. Just happened to turn out that the campaigne was alright too.

Give Treyarch some props, their level design especially multiplayer maps have always been great.

Plus theyve remedied some of MW2's bullshit. Commando, nukes and OMA is gone!

I'll say this much:

I am hoping this game dies, and does so in a screaming death that leads to some of the biggest financial losses in the history of the industry.

I have nothing against the series, but I do have some serious issues with the company and it's management, and how it's been treasting consumers. Not to mention how what they get away with is encouraging other companies to duplicate them. I think that the success of this game is going to be bad for gaming in general.

I hope come the final equasion that gamers like you decide not to buy the product, you pull your pre-orders at the last minute, leaving tons of unclaimed (but produced) copies and send the first of a number of messages to the company about it's policies.

The thing is that no matter what you think of the franchise, or the exact group of developers, in the end this all supports guys like Bobby Kotick, and others who emulate them. You can't complain about the things you see going on, when you race out to buy the game "because all your friends will be playing it", and then doubtlessly support all the DLC and other cash gouging stategies.

Saying your going to not buy a game "to make a point" when that game is one you wouldn't have purchused anyway does very little.

I am hoping people realize, and realize soon, that going for a few months without the latest shooter (or other game) is going to have benefits down the road in how the industry operates. There are going to be other shooters, other RTS games, and so on.

Nothing personal here, and I honestly expect that just like "Starcraft 2" people are going to continue their mistakes and run right out to buy the product, while Bobby Kotick not only gloats but gets increasingly worse, as do other game companies who see what he can do and go after more consumer gouging themselves.

Still, with everything he's said and done, and the amount of hatred he's been generating from firing off insults and contempt left and right, it really galls me to hear about the guy raking in another fortune, especially seeing as it's being stated pre-emptively, the company having no doubts that any bad will is irrelevent as people line up for their latest fix.

I just feel it has to be said, and I quoted your message because you mentionted buying the game, and supprting the franchise, when really I think your exactly the kind of person, who along with your friends, should carefully think about what your supporting. In the long run going without your shooter fix here is probably going to do you more good down the road.
In a way, I hope this game will be enough of a success for Treyarch to profit - they shouldn't have to suffer because Bobby Kotick is a lump of biblically proptioned cockdribble. (IMO)

But I do hope people will put off buying this game - at least for a month or so - in protest of Mr Kotick still being in a job. Thus putting a dent into the cash-flow of Activision. Businesses like money especially when it comes in quickly - if it comes in slowly, the CEOs are going to want to know why this is happening. (And we in The Escapist will be more than happy to tell them.)

But alas, I think the only true way to get rid of the likes of Mr Kotick is enough gamers letting Activision directly know their displeasure of Mr Kotick's sleazy and lazy business practices - as opposed to moaning on gaming forums which the CEOs probably don't go on. (Like his deplorable treatment of Infinity Ward amongst other things.)

If the fight against Kotick was taken to Activision and enough of a stink was made. They'd fire him on the spot. (If he got escorted out by the heavies he used against Infinity Ward - more power to them.)

My guess is an upswing in masochism. Apparently a large consumer base has a high demand for being called a colorful slur by a small child through a plastic mic.

Joking aside, could World at War have suffered from being another WWII game? That in itself provided me with ample reason to avoid it like it was carrying a disease.
I must be a weird person because I can't get enough of WWII. Modern era wargames just seem kinda meh to me...

As will I, and it looks like he will eat his own face, seeing as how BO is getting more pre-orders than MW2 did in their respective weeks leading to release, according to VGChartz.

I suspect many of the reservations are from people that have no idea about the events that have gone on between the release of MW2 and Black Ops. I think they're probably just getting it because it's CoD.
