oh my god... people take this seriously? this is less of a "good endings" list and more of a popularity vote, i mean come on, singularity and stalker soc weren't even on the list, and they easily have some of the best ending plot twists i've seen in any medium. why accept a "popular vote" model, anyway. not that many people play enough games to accurately find the best ending, and some of the better ones went under the radar, like the above examples and jade empire. this is so goddamn shameful.

after reading this list i totally lost my faith in 13.000 "gamers". This is a sad day for gaming. To think that Fallout 3 got in and Fallout 1 didnt....
or singularity, jade empire, or stalker 1? hell, even silent hill 2 or god of war?

#28 Sonic the Hedgehog...that one needs to be a bit more specific. Also why the hell did Force Unleashed 2 make the list?! I admit now that I don't think that game should exist but HOW AND WHY!? Force Unleashed had a perfectly good ending all on its own and I thought it was made to be sequel proof. Final gripe: how did Pokemon Black and White make it? I should probably play it again though since I don't really remember the ending...I remember the castle and N getting the other Legendary then riding off into the sunset. If nothing else it tells you why you can't have the other Legendary so I guess it gets points there.

I miss a game that is highly unknown and underrated, but has one of the best and most moving endings I have ever seen in a videogame: Syberia 2.

Lol COD:MW is at 23 and COD:MW2 is at 4. Who knew throwing a knife at someone was a deeper experience then slowly dying of radiation poisoning. Also FO3, are you kidding me? I raged the first time I beat that game. Seriously, until BS fixed it, the ending sucked, and BS took out the concept of an ending all together.

It also seems that a lot of the games on here were just put there to try to make the list seem legit.
Dude, did you finish MW1? Because the point you listed happens at the end of act 1. There's 3 acts. . .

Anyway, I actually thought MW2's ending was pretty damned good. Though I'm a big fan of physically broken, desperate men fighting.

Haven't played Black Ops, so can't defend that, though it is definitely more than coincidence that what was previously the best selling game ever also topped a list compiled via voting.

And just for fun, I'll say that I'd throw Portal 2 or half life 2: episode 2 at the top spot. VALVE FANBOY AWAY!!!!

I do not want to start anything about what game is really number one, and two or whatev... But really? Guinness Greatest Video Game Ending, from a poll of 13000 people? And what people? Age, country, etc... Things like that matter. Because with just that, it doesn't exactly scream accuracy.
It's not really a provable feat, as it's entirely opinion. It's a bit like a guiness world record for "Best colour"....completely meaningless regardless of sample size.

this list is a joke, right???
black ops has the best ending??? i cant even remember it. all i do remember that the main character had some sort of illusion of this one russian guy.
some of the games have far more better endings then this. hell, even shadow harvest had a really good and a surprising ending.
even the FEAR series have better endings, tomb raider etc....

Black Ops died with Reznov. Yeah the ending was unique and quite the mindbender, but it only won because of all the LAME fanboys. Real Fanboys appreciate the good in a game despite its flaws and work with that, but these had to be all the crappy little loser fanboys xD
I just think Black Ops is lame

This is an odd list. Most of those games have crap endings and a few have endings that last only a few seconds. Do they mean the last portion of the game or the ending after all gameplay is done?
Probably. Call of Duty always had a fun ending sequence while still being shallow, brown and dull, the ending scene was the only one that made the brown a different color. I do think that the way they phrased the question their just wondering which had the best ending cut scene.

Black op's ending is that good I honestly don't remember what happens.

Halo: Reach deserves its spot IMO. That's an ending I don't think I'll forget anytime soon.
I think their asking for best ending cut scene, not necessarily which had the better ending sequence. I think I would be glad if even that made it up there, just so CoD doesn't get more praise it doesn't deserve.

Why isn't Snake Eater higher up? Or hell Portal? Or its sequel? Or Fallout 3? Why are those real shitty main stream games that get a sequel every four years up there? Hell wheres System Shock 2, or Half Life 2 or even the original Half Life? I'm just sorta happy that Half Life: Episode Tow, the official valve towing game starring Gordon Freeman in a tractor.

Two things really popped out at me when I read that list:

1. Ending is never clearly defined. Does that include the final boss (which most endings ride on in games)? Does it also include the build up? Is it just what happens after the final boss? It doesn't help that we know little to no criteria that "ending" falls under because everyone could have a different opinion considering their definition. It's not concrete enough.

2. Most of the people polled must not have started gaming until the turn of the millennium. Three of the fifty titles were pre-polygon titles (Super Metroid, Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros.) and the majority were made post millennium. It's blatantly obvious that the sample Guinness took are majority eighteen or younger. Does it surprise me? No. Do I think the list should be different considering that? Not really. Do I think it's unfair that that is the definition of a gamer in this day and age? Yeah, a little. It ridiculous to see titles like "New Super Mario Bros Wii" taking a spot and yet find a lacking in games like Chrono Trigger on there. Not to say Chrono Trigger should be #1, just that it should be somewhere on that list if a more diverse sample of people were polled and it isn't.

Silly, silly lists...

"Everyone has an opinion on how to end a game whether it's an epic boss fight, a clever plot twist, or a 90-minute movie."

It's pretty clear they mean best ending sequence. . .

Plus, a fair few of those don't even have cutscenes at the end.

Even MINECRAFT had a better ending than most of those. MINECRAFT, for fucks sake.

Hell...even Sam & Max: The Devil's playhouse had a better ending than those.

I have played twelve games on that list and I have absolutely no doubt that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has the best ending. Far behind on a 2nd place I would put Portal 2. 3rd place for Tetris. That concludes the list of good game endings.

Sigh...

Is that so? Not even, ALL gamers in the world? Then they can say, based on the majority which truly is the best ending in the world.

Sample size does matter. Just because it does not "measure" in the traditional sense and is subjective, does not mean it should not be a world record... It just needs to be more thuroughly researched.
...You can be damn sure that if all the gamers in the world were asked and a majority of them agreed that "A" was the best, you'd have measured the most popular, not the best[footnote]Even an idiot could see that including ALL gamers would include more people with less knowledge, thus dramatically reducing their authority to even have a credible opinion and further disrupting the end result (note how in judged Olympic events there are a limited number of highly qualified judges, not everyone who has any vague knowledge of the sport)[/footnote].... There's a serious difference and if you're not capable of understanding how and why they're different it's nothing short of amazing that you're capable of using a computer and posting nonsense online.

Majority rules everything, though what is important is that you really do get the majority, and 13k people, does not reflect that.
Majority most certainly does not rule when opposed with straight facts. You could ask everyone in the world who the fastest man in the world is over a 200m sprint, and even if the majority answered something wrong, like Michael Johnson, the fastest man in the world over that distance would still be Usain Bolt. Facts don't care about opinion, and can be observed independently of them.

...Seriously, if you're going to take a patronising tone at least try to be remotely right :\
