What really bugs me is not the fact that they wont release it for PC, its the fact that they always say that they are "committed as ever to the PC".
But they are committed as ever to the PC. They have kept the exact same dont give a flying fuck attitude that they have always had.
frankly I'd prefer a lot LESS commitment, stop trying to control everything and just give us the game, open it up to use dedicated servers, and really the only thing they have to do is tie into Steamworks for authentication/joining-friends.
Sometimes less is more.
COD4 had pretty much no support on PC and it was great. You could have insane things like 50 players in Chinatown. And custom maps as well even. You didn't need an ongoing service, just give us the options. Minecraft is a very hands off game and as been hugely successful on PC.
PC does best without support, when you let the fans do their own thing. The problem came in MW2 when they thought they'd give us the "great gift" of IWNET and matchmaking. A poison chalice. All the shit Activision tries to give PC, they can't seem to fathom how inferior it is to what we PC gamers already did for ourselves, I think they are so blinded by the brown-nosing they get for Xbox 360 PS3 (where COD really is some of the best gaming you can get on console) they seem to assume that's universal.
We don't want elite. No one gives a crap about leaderboards. Everyone knows the top of the leaderboards is not the best player, just the most obsessive. Or at least on PC we know. If they didn't hack the game, or glich the game, or prey on the weakest players for just the high score. PC gaming has always valued tournaments more, that is where the best compete with the best and only the best of the best can win, and what's more important is HOW they win not just a raw score on a leaderboard.
