I don't get what's the big deal about being able to play as a female soldier in a multiplayer shooter for two extremely obvious reasons:

1) It's a multiplayer first person shooter. You can't see anything other than your gun/hands, as far as you're concerned you're nothing more than a camera hovering 5 feet above the ground. Now you can be a *female* camera! Alrighty then...?
You still see your hands though, you have a female voice as well, and you know that other players see your female model. As I said in my previous post, doesn't have to be much to make you feel different.

What's the point, considering:
1) You've never played Battlefield MP
2) You most likely aren't interested in ever playing Battlefield MP
This is no quote of mine. But for what it's worth, I played Battlefield MP; what I never played was CoD MP, nor am I interested in doing so. Still, I wanted to commend this move towards greater inclusiveness; credit where credit is due.

Well, if we're talking about realistic looking combat gear for women, its not exactly form fitting. I don't see why they'd have to do anything but make a new face texture (Since they'll be semi bald anyways) and just warp the waist area a little bit.

A bigger problem in my eyes would be infinity ward deciding to go overboard and make them look too different. Being in the Army is not a fashion statement, you're SUPPOSED to look the same, regardless of gender.

EDIT: Besides, if its made by infinite ward, its going to be 2 teams of quickscopers running around in ghillie suits. Slapping a female face into those green wookies shouldnt take more than 15 minutes.

I don't see how it makes a difference. Female soldiers probably won't be easily distinguishable from male ones at a glance.
Besides, the difference is just a minor cosmetic one.

To some people it apparently makes a world of difference. *shrug* I guess they will take whatever they can get when it comes to having more females in gaming :p

Well I like the equality but knowing the community this is probably just going to lead to more abuse for actual females as the avatar might give them away. But most female avatars seem to be guys anyway.

This is a good thing for IW to do but I think it'll end badly but it's not their fault, it's the community. I could be wrong however, didn't make much difference in halo so hopefully it's the same deal here.

I am not impressed. Really was it that hard to include a female in a shooter game these days? Was it that hard..

How many female avatars haven't we been able to play in the past in shootergames? Maybe they we're not the first choice but they we're there! So why didn't the engine has support of FEMALE bodies in the past? I know female bodies in the past didn't have much physics behind it to make them different.

But really it took you guys this long to make this.. I guess shooters are only for those with beards.

Why there's still any multiplayer title of that kind out there that doesn't offer you to play as woman is totally beyond me.
Possibly because in majority of the world there are no women soldiers. I mean infantry. Most countries do now allow women to go to infantry and the few that do have started allowing them very recently. It is realistic to have no women rambo running around middle east.

Dont get me wrong, im not agaisnt female soldiers, i think in real life and in games alike, soldiers should be sent to their work based on their chracteristics and not them bieng male or female, but there is a real explanation oher than sexism.

From what I gather, the only way to make it "less shitty" to the escapist community would to turn it into Battlefield or Counter Strike.
if anything battlefront is more escapists obsession. I agree that battlefield multiplayer while not perfect is better than that of COD, though counter strike i found completely too boring/easy.

Good for CoD. Really. And I don't even like CoD.

so a game that has larger, wider multipalyer with more options and more physics is the one copying?

Yeah same. Until they make the multiplayer less of a clusterfuck designed for people with ADHD I won't be getting it.
so they have to adapt their game towards people with an illness who has more fake cases than real ones reported now? how about we make all games playable with one hand because you know there are people without one?
My point is: ADHD is your problem, not theirs.

Yea, I don't believe that for a second. Not ever. How much can it cost to design a few base models, and record some female sounds and voice snippets? You don't need anything else.
A lot.
Voice acting is very expensive. Well, good voice acting anyway.

Half of me wants to pat Infinity Ward on the back for doing this. The other half wants me to slap them for creating a franchise where this is a big deal.

No. All you really need is one single female voice actor shouting a few dozen lines. And those lines don't exactly have to convey the same emotional depth as they do in games like Bioshock, Last of Us or Mass Effect. I'm not claiming it doesn't cost anything, but the costs are so low that the cost/benefit ratio should be off the charts.

So they made a female model for a multiplayer mode. A female model who's going to be kitted out so she'll look identical to a male model unless they go full idiot and have boob kevlar or something. Way to make a pointless gesture and waste some cash, I suppose.

If equality is that easy I'm amazed we didn't do it years ago.

Edit: I foresee a "Bitchmode" in which all players are forced to play as female dogs.

I don't understand why this is a big deal, Congrats you can play as a girl. Too bad it's COD and you won't even see your character. Hell most games won't last long enough for to get a real good look, I seriously hope they didn't waste any resources or time on this that could of been used for balance.

There's a reason men have always been the ones on the front lines. There are certain... periods of time... where women are less than combat-ready. Not only that, but there's always the risk of pregnancy while on active duty.

Men are always combat ready and don't get paid maternity leave. You can strike anyone any time AND it keeps your overhead costs down.

Still, doesn't mean women still can't kick just as much ass. Outside of those conditional modifiers of course. I dunno how Samus does it, maybe she had surgery or something?

How do you think game balancing is done? Do you think the people who make models are in charge of weapons balancing?
Is the new call of duty game even at a stage where balance comes into play? Are they actively playtesting it to see how the new features and changes they plan to make effect the rest of the game?

World of Warcraft was originally slated to have only 6 playable races. But because of one dev's work at home overnight doing models, they added 8 during launch.

I don't know how game balancing is done, but I do know COD developers are bad at it. COD 4 was the closest to being balanced and there were still a lot of problems.

I never said the guys who make character models were in charge of weapons, but that doesn't mean they aren't using resources that could of been spent somewhere else.

The entire time of a games development is a stage where balance needs to be considered, it's a fundamental part of a game. Especially when said game is a primarily multiplayer game.

I'm not sure what the WoW bit had to do with this but I guess that's kind of neat, too bad no one making COD cares enough to do something like that...

If my spelling and what not is crap it's cuz I just got home from work and I'm tired :(

Because it generally doesn't matter. You will see the person for two seconds before you blow their heads off and move on. Also, other than being a bit skinnier, with all the gear on is there really that much of a difference at first glance? I would rather them spend the time on balance (which the CoD series has always lacked it seems) than focusing on female player models, the mocap for them, and the customization on the player character.
Seeing as how it's not either/or (especially since they'll probably never bother with balance in any meaningful sense), if it doesn't matter then why not do it?
