Kudos to IW! I'm genuinely surprised. Now CoD has gone from a game series I don't give a damn about to a series I'll look into more.
If I can has bots in multiplayer, I don't see a reason to not get the game since the community's the major turn off for me. That, and up until now it's been a sausage-fest shooter.
It doesn't take much to make an inclusive game that makes people feel more welcome, it seems. It's a welcome step forward, IMO.
I wonder if Jim had any influence at all?
I think the big influence was the Change in the law that made it so the Pentagon can no longer forbid women from front line combat roles. The law is pretty recent but it probably was a realism deal, Female soldiers were not allowed into front line combat roles, I think fighter pilot was an exception but I'm not sure and would only be in combat in ambush situations (to be fair, a huge percentage of battles in the past wars were ambush situations.) I do think that now that the law is gone it would be more realistic to have women in the game on the front lines. It won't be long to have more women in those roles because Front line roles have a higher rate of promotion than non combat roles. There is still the physical exam, which won't be lowered for women, but it won't be impossible for them to pass, just easier for males due to the fact the male body tends to have higher upper body strength, which is important, you need soldiers that are capable of carrying a fallen comrade to the medical chopper.
Still it's really good to see games to acknowledge the changes in the military, hopefully the next batch will have women and gay soldiers in the campaign.
