Well with 6 games in the Franchise it would bea kind of a let down it it was lower.
Actually, I think that half a billion dollars per game is pretty amazing going.
Dam my sloppy writing, i was refer to the playtime not the money.
Money wise... Wooooooo!

IW should separate from Activision and become their own company.
And then IW can fund their own £200 million dollar advertisng campaign!
i think the next modern warfare games will have got to a stage where they don't even need that much advertising to be successful.

Man, why must sub-par franchises make so much money? These kind of games actively spread the dumb and good games that should have been released (BioShock 2) don't get the publicity they deserve!

When Radelaide takes power of the world, IW are going to give all their money to developers making good games. Not stupid war ones that have been done to DEATH.

Go die, War FPS genre. Go die.

The sales that heavily contributed to that figure probably lean towards MW1 + MW2...

It would still do well, but no where near the level of Modern Warfare 2. The Ad campaign made all the kids who wouldnt normally care start Nagging till they got it.

Huh. I never knew CoD was this polarising. I never got into the series myself, so I just kind of ignored it, but it's surprising to see how split people are.

Anyone else getting sick of all these "Activision is evil!!!" comments? Christ, obviously you can't hate them to much if you are willing to buy their games.

Good for Infinity Ward, but...

This just shows that most people don't care about things originality or artistic direction in games, it's a shame that more creative games will be lost in the shadow of generic war games like MW2.
Sure the genre of FPS is generic, but the Modern Warfare series is at least refreshing in the sea of WW2 FPS's.
What about this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_2] or this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_2142] or this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Clancy's_Rainbow_Six_(video_game)] or even this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counter_Strike]?

There were plenty of non-WWII FPSs around at the time, granted CoD4 was very polished and cinematic, but the premise wasn't unique.

Personally, I think CoD4 was better than MW2.

HEY! Don'r ever say I don't remember Battlefield 2142!

That...Is my number one... The Pinnacle of my happiness as a gamer. I even did a review of it!

Looks like Nintendo let Activison borrow their money printing machine.

And that's why I never bought a single game of theirs. ^w^

"If you consider the number of hours our audiences are engaged in playing 'Call of Duty' games, it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history,"

...

Seriously? He's actually saying that and acting like it means something?

If you consider the number of hours audiences collectively spend PICKING THEIR NOSES, I'm sure that adds up to an impressive-sounding but ultimately meaningless number as well.

Gamers are a bunch of whinny bitches. even if your not a fan of the game, its made lots of money, this money can then go back into making more games and growing the gaming medium. at the end of the day it does come down to money, its a business, if a company makes lots of money then it can put the profit back into the company and make even more money. If the company has no money, then they can't make any more games and your all bitching about activation been evil and such because the head dude wants to make lots of money and maybe he is a bit of an evil guy but so are the head's of movie company's. the head of a company is meant to be evil and money driven, its about the people lower down who want to do it for the "right reasons". if a company has lots of spare cash, when somebody comes along with a unique idea that sounds good, then the company can take a risk with it, without it been a risk because if it fails then its not a dent in the company's pocket. its the same with TV and cinema. they keep making more "24" every year because it brings LOTS of money every year.

people need to stop bitching about activation making lots of money. MW2 is so popular am sure it will bring more people into gaming, so there are more gamers then there were, this again will result in more money for the company's and then in turn more games. they will come out with crap games, like crap movies come out but there will be some brilliant games that come out.

this idea that company's making lots of money will damage the purity of the industry is stupid. ow ow, I just thought of another example. reality TV, personally I think its crap TV but it brings in lots of money to the TV company's, they then can use this money to make good TV, drama's, documentaries etc, those kind of shows might not always bring in a huge amount of cash for the company but because the crap reality TV brings it in, they can keep making it. its the same for the gaming industry, if the company's make lost of money, then they can support the other stuff.

am going to stop ranting now. but honestly making money isn't a bad thing
