Right, fair enough. I'm not doing this just to start a successful thread, I don't usually start threads anyway, just post in them. However, I didn't realise that people still posted in the other one, I had a look and it looked like a dead thread to me. Too late to delete this one anyway, unless the mods turn up, and I doubt it'll get closed since I haven't broken any rules. Ah well, sorry about that anyway guysTheNecroswanson said:The thread doesn't need restarting. The newer members will just have to suck it up. However, a lot of newer members won't know about that thread so they'll be omitted by accident. This is basically to restart the thread rather than resurrect an old one and mean people have to wade through hundreds of replies...Noamuth said:Check out this topic [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.72805?page=1].
And while DA can be great, it is a good resource for PS brushes and such.. There is so much crap on that site, it is bloody scary.
But wading through the crap, there is a lot of good stuff.
Edit: The thread sees new posts quite often. It's not dead.
Alright whatever. I guess if anyone cares I may upload some of the projects my instructor hates, those are pretty endearing to me, but apparently won't be getting me any fame or money. lolTrivun said:You never know, we might like itI know I never thought I was a decent artist at all until I discovered the joys of melted wax and old photo paper... Actually very interesting. Was the wierd skewing of the forms intentional? (critique mode) A few of the pieces felt like they may be more successful with closer attention to human form. I imagine if you did that it would pop and the planets would align in a glorious eruption.Brotherofwill said:Remember the old thread... but who gives a shit. Yay to art

Yea, it's intentional and my style. Always drew like that and i don't think I can and/or want to change it. I don't use reference models for my drawings so yea, the anatomy and forms may be a bit off. Most people are kind of creeped at first, but then they digg it.sevenrings said:Actually very interesting. Actually that was the most apparent thing to me. Its what made it really stand out to me. One thing I've learned is that practicing figure studies really helps when drawing things that need to have some naturalistic look. You may wanna try it, you could really suprise yourself. Just a suggestionBrotherofwill said:Yea, it's intentional and my style. Always drew like that and i don't think I can and/or want to change it. (detail is my strongest aspect which isn't really apparent in these images)
Thanks for the tipp.sevenrings said:Actually that was the most apparent thing to me. Its what made it really stand out to me. Thanks! Wish I could draw on all that negative energy I had back then to make stuff like that, but its kinda left me so now I gotta redefine how I go about things. Right now in advanced drawing I'm trying to do simple, understandable narratives in a comic book-esque style. It gets tough as I try to use real world models and filter out the reality of it all to generate the image.Brotherofwill said:Thanks for the tipp.
I've had quite a few life drawing sessions and I think that if I really wanted I could get the proportions right, but I've been drawing with this style so long it's practically a part of my hand.
I really digg your selfportrait on deviantart.
Yea, I had the same thing happen to me when i left high school: a lot of negative energy just evaporated and now I'm really digging listening to classical music and drawing color squares. The style just always evolves I think, no need to try do something that you aren't anymore.sevenrings said:Thanks! The instructor and a good portion of the class don't seem very fond of it (yet) but I'm so sick of parroting a fucking image. What I came to be good at in classes was copying photos or making photorealistic pictures of live models--and I hated it. I want to do something thats all my own and maybe it'll pay off and somehow click as 'gallery art' before I fail the class.
There is a lot of that on any website. dA is no different. However there are nuggets of gold in the cesspit, but wading through the shit to get to it can be a bit of a chore. There are a number of really good artists on there, you just have to ignore the acres of pretentious photography and emo poetry.HSIAMetalKing said:I've always thought of deviantART as an ugly cesspool of bad anime/videogame fan-art, amateur Photoshoppers and shitty poetry, but my sister has been a member of that site for years and she spends absurd amounts of time on it.
In my experience internet "art" communities spawn nothing but angsty, drama-prone pricks.
Actually, some of the photography on there is really good. On my profile I have several pieces of photgraphy from one person in my Favourites, they're actually really good. I admit a lot of the stuff there is pretentious, and there is a lot of emo poetry, but I'm not complaining too much (I think I'm going through a 'dark' phase at the momentgalletea said:There is a lot of that on any website. dA is no different. True, but I suppose that's something you'll get with any online art site. The Deviant Watch feature is really useful for that, I've found, cause I can find a few favourite artists and keep track of their new stuff so I don't miss it whenever something new gets posted. I usually look for specific art styles anyway, so it's easier for me.beddo said:I hate Deviant Art, the submission process is a mess.
