He's talking about .hack// (Dot Hack Sign), a series of games based of an anime harder to get into than Fort Knox.

It's a game about a game, basically, that has garnered an almost cult-status in some sectors; it has a manga, short anime, etc.

I'd love to know why.
I played the first one, got ten hours in and stopped playing. It's just repetitve, and the story is pretty horrible too.

oh I'd totally surbscribe to "The World" or "The World II" if you played GU. Yeah, i'm a total fan of .hack, reading the mangas and watching the show as well, with my favorite being the one with Tsukasa ".hack//Sign" it was like it could intrigue you with almost nothing really happening, it was very cerebral. Ran parallel to the first four games as well, with even a single episode with the full casts from both(Intermezzo). Had good music, too, that is something I've always enjoyed about .hack stuff, very theatrical and operatic soundtracks... hmm...

I used to love the .Hack series. ^^ I kinda grew out of it, though.
I still play every now and then, but mostly because I love running around with Endrance and Azure Kite. xD

Before I played the game I've read most of the manga watched all the anime series so when I finally found the game it was so odd recognizing all the people and places.

Anything within the first 4 games and .hack//SIGN was absolutely amazing. I can't stand anything outside of those though. They just don't have the same level of development and character attachment with them.

The hell with that G.U. took everything the original 4 games had and made it better.

GU didn't make it better, it made it... different.
Personally, I far prefer its predecessors, but if that's what you like, then go for it.

Still, .hack//SIGN was the closest I ever got to Ootaku...

I didn't exactly enjoy the .Hack games. The story confused the living crap out of me at times and I didn't like the combat.

GU was better gameplay-wise, but I still prefer the storyline of .hack//GAMES(the official names for first four games) Also, Tsukasa made an appearance in the last game, She/he(really she...) and Lady Subaru for the win.

Also, Haseo was kind of a dick. Silabus was awesome, however, and Alkaid.

I thought it was ok, but then i got to the last boss on .hack mutation, tried to beat it for weeks and then gave up because you HAVE to play the series in order.

I love the originals games and G.U though GU made the phases into wussies with the simple albeit cool looking avatar battles. Both series stories sucked me in and would not let go.I still thing mutation and outbreak should have been 1 game but that's just me. Tried .Hack sign out, it was okay, Roots was good till CN canceled it. Also the whole legend of the twilight with the chibi's always seemed rather dumb to me.
