The mother is being understandably touchy especially in this day and age where the media would have you believe a paedophile is lurking on every street.

My advice (unasked for though it is) would be to attempt to wean the kiddies off your presence at bedtime, they'll have to get used to the idea eventually anyway.

To be honest, the perverts are the ones who immediately imply that there must be something untoward going on.

But, the perception of others is a fickle thing; And these days there's a degree of paranoia around that makes even the most harmless of things a problem.

If you want proof of this, look no further than Micheal Jackson - Now, I'm not saying anything about wether he did anything inappropriate with kids or not;

But look at what the mere accusation of it did to his life;

All the damage to his reputation that it caused - None of which had to do with what he actually did, but merely with what people suspected he did.

Granted, that's an extreme example, but think about that and you see the problem here.

If people are worried about it, you have no way of proving your innocence.
And therein lies the danger to the 'adult' in these situations...

We want to protect children, but it's easy to forget the harm caused by excessive suspicion...

Eh, technically anyone who goes against the "norm" could be called a pervert. As far as I can tell the societal norm right now is missionary position between married adults. Anything other then that is frowned upon publicly. It doesn't matter what is different; position, age, marital status, etc. Now, I'm not saying that such a belief is right or wrong but it tends to be the belief of society (at least those that speak up about such matters.)

Now my personal opinion on the issue is you did nothing wrong. Now if you ever get the feeling of wanting to do something more there may be a potential problem but as long as it is merely to comfort the children and you have no sexual inclinations there is nothing wrong with it.

Having just been on the thread about sexuality, im curious as to if your worried about sharing a bed with someone of the same sex... What about sharing the bed with a young child or even 2 whom you are babysitting.

Im 19, but last year i used to babysit my neighbour's 2 kids a lot. The oldest was 11 and the youngest was 7yrs old. Both used to like sleeping beside me in my room, and my mum would be in her room. Obviously i never laid a hand on them nor had any intention seeing as i treat and love them like brother and sister to me, not only that but to be honest, i hated sleeping beside them because id often end up battered and thrown off the bed before morning, but the kids insisted on me sleeping beside them.
However one of the girl's friends lives in the same street and her mum thinks its inappropriate and you can tell from her attitude that she seems to think im some sort of pervert.

no, not at all. Kids like to sleep together for fun, it can comfort them. If there was no intent whatsoever then of course your not a pervert. In fact, I would say you are just a really good babysitter, for understanding them.
