Can we please calm down about the new DMC game? (Yes, this is a rant.)

I'm looking forward to the new Devil May Cry game. In case your so biased that you thought you read that wrong, I'll say it again. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW DEVIL MAY CRY GAME. Allow me to present you with what has me so pissed.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.315151-Devil-May-Cry-Update

I mean seriously, are we still this pissy over the new game? I know gamers hate change, but good god, I've only seen this kind of knee-jerk hissyfit from the Sonic fandom. Why are we even taking it this hard anyway? It's not like the original games are going to disappear or anything. Besides, we can only gain from this new game. Fun as they were, the old games were a mess of inconsistencies and plot holes barely connected by what can be described as canon in only the loosest definition of the word. This new game gives the possibility of a fresh start and "GASP!" maybe even an actual storyline.

Then there's Dante. And no, I'm not calling him "New" Dante and I?m sure as hell not calling him "angsty" or "emo". It's Dante, just different then the one we've had up 'till now. Just look at the guy. The only thing remotely "emo" about him is his hair, and the hair does not make the emo, as we clearly have forgotten, and atleast it's better then that wannabe Beatles shag he was sporting originally. He's pissed off, plain and simple. And why shouldn't he be? He's got an entire city of demons after him, and at one point, imprisoned and tortured. Plus, he's still in his teens. Who wasn't pissed for relatively no reason at that age?

And of course, there's the whole "half devil, half angel" thing. It's a tad cliché', I'll give you that, but it also presents a whole host of possibilities for both gameplay and story. Hell, we already know there'll be two different sets of attacks to use, and you can even alternate between them in midfight. And you can't deny he's still pretty badass. Look at the first trailer. He puts a cigarette out on a demon's face, then proceeds to smash said demon's head into the pavement. He rushes headlong into a group of demons and guns them down. And then there's the leaping, slicing, impaling, and using a car as a projectile.

This, of course, is ignoring the fact that we still barely know anything about him as a character. But it's not like any of you care about that, not when your so busy bitching about his hair not being entirely white or that his coat isn't completely red or that his skin is too pale. What is this, Queer Eye for the Demonhunter? And what about his brother, Vergil? I would've loved to have seen more of him, and now we have a chance to get him back.

My point is, all of this complaining is baseless. It isn't even legitimate complaints, just whining about how different everything is. All I ask is that you give it a chance, let the game actually come out first, and tear it apart for it's actual flaws. If your willing to do that, good for you, you know what being a fan actually means. If not, that's fine, too. Ignore it, play the original games, whatever. Just quit with the bitching, already.

EDIT: I wrote this while seriously pissed off, and looking back at it I can see where I contradict myself, and even make myself out to be a bit of a hypocrite. I'd like to apologize for that, but I'd still like to see people be more reasonable with their complaints and atleast give it a chance. Title also changed out of embarrassment.

"What is this, Queer Eye for the Demonhunter?"

For some reason I thought that was hilarious and made me almost choke on my iced tea.

Anyways, I personally don't see the big deal since from what I've gathered, they're doing a reboot. And reboots typically mean the character gets a new look and some original elements will get changed, so I don't get the rage over this.

From what I've seen of the game, I really want to play it, and I just hope that they keep the tongue in cheek style that that franchise is known for.

Sorry but I refuseto support something that uses thename of a franchise when it should just be a new IP. They didn't call Left 4 Dead Half-dead, or Half life: one Half less. They should just call it something else.

I'm generally pissed at the direction they're heading with this installment. But, I certainly will give it a try, always planned on it.

If it has an interesting plot along with solid gameplay, then I'll be happy enough to buy it. But when its in my hands, I will be sure change the title on the case:
Devil may Cry
Demon Angel Love Child in Limbo City

Unless I consider it to be a great addition to the series, then I'll change it back.

Oh goodness, that made me laugh.

That being said, I agree with all your points, good sir/madam. As a long-time DMC fan, I'm actually looking forward to this reboot. It looks fun. And it's more DMC. I like fun, and I like DMC. If the game comes out and is bad, then people are free to bash it as much as they want. But I'm not going to jump on the hate-train before the game even comes out.

I know what you mean, when this reboot first came to light I was saying how it was needed. We've had 4 dmc games, and we still don't rly know shit about what's going on cept that dante half demon, he has a twin and his father saved the earth. The plot was going no where and dmc 2 fcked up so bad, all other games would have to be prequels to it. After playing dmc 4 with nero has the main it showed you didn't need dante there to. Have a fun dmc game, it was all about the style and gameplay. I have np idea why ppl are so up in arms cuz they took away the silver hair and put reboot on the game.

For dmc 5 I was actually hoping that there would be a team with dante, trish, lady, and nero and they'd let you choice who you wanted to play the game through with cuz at its core, dmc was just about fast actioned packed gameplay, not story or main chars. I think ppl just wanna ***** for the sake of bitching at times, hopefully the devls won't drop the ball on this and show everyone why even with a new look, this will still be dmc at its finest.

I'll tell you my main issue. It's about what this game is supposed to be. Reboot or prequel. If it's a reboot like some peeps are saying... fine. Whatever. It couldn't possibly compare to the original series but it's all good.

If it's supposed to be some kind of Prequel, then they can die in a fire because they just completely fucked up the story like some dumbass retcon that wasn't even done properly.

The half angel thing is not just about gameplay. It's also about storyline. And if you know anything about the story, plot holes and all, you know Dante's humanity was an extremely important character trait. It helped define what he was as a character. And while we're at it, so did the hair.

His white/platinum blonde color is genetic, coming from his demon father. His twin brother Vergil also had the white hair. It was the general assumption that he was born with the white hair so naturally every fan is going to wanna know what the hell happened to it. Although, theories that he may have died it or whatever is pretty cool.

I mean, one of the plot holes was what happened in Dante's past where his mother died when his family was attacked while his father was gone. So people liked to touch on that and figure it could take place there. He's a teen after all. But again... the half demon/half angel plot pretty much throws that possibility out the window.

But to your biggest complain, I'm still willing to give it a shot. I am reserved by every since of the word. I'm giving it a chance to draw me in. We'll see how that works out.

It kind of sucks that they chose the name for a new IP... Bethesda would sue them over this if they could.

The thing about his humanity and hair color is actually what made me think it could be interesting as a prequel. No young man naturally has white hair, and since he has black hair, it could've been a story about him being a regular human teenager(?) eventually learning about his demon heritage and gaining his powers, hence the devil trigger/white hair, which eventually becomes permanent from over usage (cliche, but still). Of course this half angel thing shits all over that.

He wasn't complaining about the hair color or the fact that the coat changes color, in fact he actually LIKES that bit since it's a callback to the established look. What he's complaining about is the changes to the actual gameplay mechanic.

If you acknowledge that he's a different Dante, what's wrong with calling him "New" Dante?

Yeah... cause that thread title is totally going to inspire calm. I think if you want people to calm a down about it how about not using inflammatory words in the thread title?

Personally I don't care about the changes to Dante. I never played DMC games for their story, I played them for the game play. As long as the game play is good, I'll get it.

I'm actually looking forward to this one, mostly because NT are good at making characters I like and care about like their last game Enslaved. Dante in the original DMC was the definition of one dimensional and I never cared what happens to him.

I'm on the edge on how the combat will be but from what I've seen in gameplay vids it looks decent so far.

Is it wrong that much of my least favourite changes to Dante are the short dark hair instead of the long, white/grey-ish hair?

Not much else about the new character design bothers me. Just short haired Dante feels weird.

All the dante changes/unnecessary reboot shit would be fine, if the gameplay wasn't a million times worse. Seriously, it's regression in every sense of the word. Even worse, it's regression for the sake of casualization. This is a series renowned for it's fast-paced gameplay. When the fucking Devil Trigger changes from something to make you incredibly fast to something that just makes everything around you slower, you know whoever is handling the game is handling it wrong.

Oh, and there are only two stances. There not even stances. They're weapon changes, which were already in the old games. Yeah. Innovation to the max.

Oh, and to add to that, no combo meter either. Yeah, apparently it will be indicated by "sound".

This game will be a piece of shit, just like everything Team Ninja has ever touched outside of their one good series, Ninja Gaiden.

Also, since they added this "half-demon/half-angel" bullshit, I'm calling that there will be a moral choice system.

I just don't care for when they change the appearance and personality of a character. Better off making the character its own and doing that. Same reason I don't like how, King Jack Atlus went from an egotistical, good guy in the anime to a douche bag who likes to crash peoples motorcycles and mock everyone in the manga.

If you're gonna change so much, why not make a new character? Because you need the title to help sale your product? Street Fighter 2010.

Of course I'm not gonna calm down. I'm excited that it's coming out. Now that I've played and enjoyed the other four games, I'm looking forward to seeing what this one is going to be like.

I detect confusion.

The new DMC game is being developed by Ninja Theory, the people who made Heavenly Sword and Enslaved. It is not being developed by Team Ninja, who made Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive.

Make of that what you will.

So what its wrong that people criticize the direction of this game? I bet the people praising the changes to series don't bother you at all despite not having played the game also. If you like DmC fine but don't try and force others to not criticize something just because you like it.

It's not Dante. Calling him Dante in a "new" DMC game is a bit of a kick in the pants. They removed the lighthearted campiness of the original and turned him into an angsty teen. There is no excuse for this doofus to be angsty WHATSOEVER.

I would probably be interested if they hadn't called it DMC, and they hadn't named him Dante.
