Can you laugh at yourself?

After watching some youtube clips, I get the impression some people can't laugh at themselves or where they grew up or whatever.

I'm from the UK, more specifically Liverpool and (at least everybody I know) thinks the UK is crap, we laugh at our inadequacies and are proud to be mediocre. Being from Liverpool I am also obligated to steal anything not bolted down and being half Irish I am also an alcoholic (despite me not drinking in nearly 5 years).

As Bill Bailey said about us Brits "we crave disappointment", "we're just a bunch of stoned, illiterate, wheezing, shagging, lardy bastards".

So, can you fall off a chair and instead of being embarrassed do you start laughing? For example.

Hell! I know myself well enough that I can take the piss out of myself... hell... look at my Avatar... I had that thing for months... and took all the piss-taking and banter! (All friendly of course) because it was a laugh! The excuse I used to the pro-tache friends for why I shaved it off is that I lived to close to a school!

I am also from SW England... so know full well that I am meant to sound like a farmer, and only drive a tractor!

I enjoy the communal moaning and self-deprecating humour that we share in the UK.
I sure do take the piss out of the place I grew up, as it's just a bit of a shithole (though I havent been there in years so what the hell it could be nicer now).
My family does enjoy taking the piss out of each other, and me and the boyfriend do it all the time.

I've got balance problems due to ear stuff so I just sort of have to laugh at myself sometimes. Especially when I fall over or walk into something.
