Can You Read People?

Hi all,

This is something that I've been thinking about for a while now, and I think this is worthy of its own thread.

I believe that I can read people's energy.

Whatever "energy" means to you is fine for this discussion because there is no way to define it anyways (in this context). Basically, I feel like I can get a "vibe" from people in about 30 seconds and I'm usually right in my instant feeling about them.

It could be called intuition, instinct, gut feeling, or outright snap judgment. I question whether or not this is all I'm really doing, being judgmental.

Do you all feel that you are good at this? Or, do you believe that first impressions matter?

I'm curious.

I think everyone has that initial vibe about a person; though how accurate it is can be up in the air. I'm usually almost always wrong about people, maybe its because I have mild paranoia, but yeah. I'm better at people watching and reading emotions.

Yes, I hate phrasing it like this, but people are pretty easy to "read", and most of the time I'm pretty accurate.

I'm near fantastic at spotting lies, but near terrible at fully reading emotions ot even caring about them, for that matter.

EH, it depends, Im usually better at telling what people are thinking or something along that line, I do get a sort of first image for someone and I usually stick with that, but I dont really "feel' their energy, however I dont need to, I can tell whose a dick or not.

Actually ur right, everyone has a vibe to them. The brain picks up more than u ever actually know, someones smell is approximately 50% of the reason u find someone attractive and when ur angry/sad etc u release slight chemicals that people pick up on as well. That and if u can pick up slight hints on someones face it gives u a vibe as well. At least this is what iv been told...

OT im pretty good at picking up on peoples emotions, although when i get it wrong i REALLY get it fucking wrong

I'm pretty sure everyone likes to think they can build an accurate picture of someone when they meet them. Maybe it's simply to do with body language.

Yes, but not by a "vibe". It all comes down to simple things like body language, speaking patterns, amount of eye contact, ect.

If you're talking about reading as in pinpointing emotions and lies through body cues, then I'm actually quite good at it. I like being able to freak out my friends with it.

"Getting a vibe" sounds kinda weird though. Just being able to know when someone's feeling sad or happy or something? Or is it like telepathy :p

I can spot bitchy women and arsehole blokes from a hundred paces. Don't know what it is, probably something about the way they carry themselves. If I ever get closer to them and see them being themselves, I'm usually right. Very rarely does someone surprise me.

I'd love to know what peoples first impressions of me are!!

Unable to detect sarcasm, suspect it though.

Actually, its an evolutionary development, being able to differentiate between caveman A (Wants to kill you) verses caveman B (Wants to give you cake. Or a mouthful of caveman A) is a worthy evolution.

Likewise, humans have developed their abilities to distinguish between each other's states and react accordingly. The only downside of these developed abilities is when someone develops the ability to 'cheat', showing sad to get the benefits of everyone's attention, etc.

Can I do this? Yes, although this is not a unique ability, most humans respond to 'mirror-neuron' reactions (Seeing sad and feeling empathy for the sad person). I can also identify people with overly overt personalities, why? Because these people tend to project themselves as massively over-compenstating assholes and are the proverbal flares in an otherwise dark world.

I'll see...

I think that you're probably about 16 years old, like to think of yourself as very sociable, and hold this skill as something that you're very proud of.
I think that you're looking for a lot of responses to this topic, but you'll not give as much credit to their supposed ability as to yours, you're subconsciously hoping for admiration for your talent.
You're quite intellectual, or at least like to think of yourself as such, and take great care when it comes to presenting yourself to others, even on the internet.

And that's about all I can guess at, did I get any right? =D

This isn't meant to be insulting or anything like that, it's just the impression of you I got from your post: I may be right, I may be totally wrong.

I try to avoid "reading" people as it can lead to preconceived notions about what a person is like, what a person will do...etc. I usually try to give everyone a blank slate before I begin to judge their reliability, friendliness, etc.

However, body posturing I will not ignore. Unless it is a very devious person we're talking about, subconscious body attitude will tell a lot about what the person is really feeling.

Besides body positions however, I really don't make an effort to read people's energy or anything.

Maybe, had a rather 'merry' party and by 'merry' I mean getting numb-wasted on scotch.
Also, yes.

I'm pretty sure I don't get the part about energy, Vegeta. What does the scouter say?

OT: Reading people isn't that hard. I have alot of experience figuring out people by pattern recognition.
