Cancer is cured....now what?

Curing people of Religion maybe? That or the Common cold.

.. But, what if Religion has improved that individual? Like myself, I am a Christian (who doesn't shun nor judge anyone) that has a better personality thanks to that belief. Back then I was sort of selfish and immature until at a certain point, I became a much more noble person thanks to religion. Not all religious people are what they make themselves out to be.

Besides, religion is a belief which goes deep within the roots of the mind. Curing that is maybe stripping half that person's reasons on what life is itself. I won't judge you nor others who bash Religion but just know there are the noble, civil individuals.

OT: If cancer was cured regardless if nothing else, I would be very happy. However, we have so many other issues to tackle like a bad economy, crime, drugs (the bad ones), child abuse, vital diseases like AIDs... I think we'll be busy till all the World's problems are gone which is most unlikely but why give up hope. Trying is better then doing nothing.

P.S: Same goes toward atheists- you can't force religion onto them or deny their existence as human beings. I find everyone equal in manners of being even more important then myself. However, it's their actions that I will view upon them.

What would probably happen is the Government outlaws it, calling it "unsafe" or what have you and let one of the massive drug industries fight for the right to sell their own cancer-curing pill for $10,000 each (plus they will make it so you need to take one annually), making billions on the side while you become a slave, saving up everything you have for the right to live.


However, seeing as I don't have to be realistic: I would sell the pill for a much more reasonable price (plus you only need to take it once), make a tidy fortune and live in a massive house with many beautiful young girls.
People will come to me asking for cures to many other diseases but I'll be far too comfortable to help them. Let someone else take that glory

Well, the next milestone is obviously aging.

You know, cancer never used to be much of an issue. When people died at thirty years of age, there really wasn't time for their cells to start mutating out of control... and even if that was happening, the latest deadly pox usually got them first.

As we keep moving forward, I think we'll find more and more of the individual problems that make up aging... the various degradations of DNA that change the process of getting older from one of growth to one of death, and we will learn how to forestall those degradations longer and longer. There will always be a curtain to push back, though, I think... and the problem of actually affording to do it for everyone, rather than just those few who are wealthy enough.

Old Man Death won't be out of a job for a long time, unless I miss my guess.

Robotics will likely take over at some point once we can make hardware that is compatible with our own "software" (or would our brain be the hardware and our perceptions be the software? whatever). Soon, I think, it will merely be the preservation of the brain. Or, perhaps, the ability to replicate the various processes that make up an individuals brain with a machine. I have to ask, though, if they somehow made a computer that is functions in a way that is perfectly identical to your brain, and then "uploads" all of your thoughts and memories onto it, is it you? Is it a clone of you? You know, if there's such a thing as "god's domain" that would certainly be messing with it. That's probably all Gantz is, really, now that I think about it (I haven't read that manga in a loooong time).

suppose you found a cure for cancer, not just one type but all types of cancer, the cure could be anything i.e. having to eat 7 lbs. of string cheese and 3 cups of salsa while having to watch the extended cut of return of the king (ya the 5 hour version or however long it is) but the point is, you cured it. Now what? what would happen in the aftermath of everything celebrating that cancer is cured?

Relax as the royalty comes in allowing me to live comfterbly for the rest of my life. Seriously whoever invents that will be on easy street, and then go for one of the other nasty diseases.

HIV needs curing, malaria, hemophilia, epilepsy, endometriosis, diabetes.... There are so many things that need cures and treatments, and things that need to be explored, like stem cell research and MRI contrast agents.
Cancer isn't the end-all be-all of diseases. There are so many more that kill more people and need cheaper treatment.
Cancer is a big problem, and a scientifically interesting one that I intend to work on, but it isn't the most important disease, as most people think it is.

I would release the cure at $100 a piece. It's cheap, much cheaper than chemotherapy, and for the average person that's just about half a week's pay, if not less.

That's closer to half a day's pay for middle class round these parts. This isn't even a real city, go into a real city and your average household income goes up to somewhere in the neighborhood of $65,000.

Hell the guy's that pick apples are pulling in between $100 and $150 a day this year due to a worker shortage.

I'd probably just question how in the hell I found the cure despite there's scientists working round the clock with millions (if not billions) of dollars funding their research.
