http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-04-17-no-paid-character-dlc-plans-for-tekken-tag-tournament-2

Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada has stated that Tekken Tag 2 won't have paid DLC characters. He went on to say that any characters locked away on disc would be unlocked early as a pre-order bonus but that other players would be granted access to them later free of charge.

I must say that this is pretty encouraging and that Capcom could probably learn something from this, but is Harada part of a dying breed? What do you guys think? And is anyone else hyped for Tekken Tag 2?

Oh and Harada also said in an interview with The Independent [http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/gaming/katsuhiro-hirada-talks-tekken-tag-tournament-2-7656968.html] that Tekken x Street Fighter is 'almost' 10% complete, so that's encouraging I guess :p

So picking the game up new means that you get the stuff earlier but the people who buy used get it for free also? Convenience and an incentive to buy new but not penalizing the used game market? Somebody stop the presses we have a winner. Unless used buyers still have to pay for them and the early start with new characters is preorder but not buying the game new.

Yep, this is how you tackle the 'problem' of used games. It's a preorder bonus so those people get the characters new on launch and everyone else get them later.

Capcom doesn't need to learn from this. They know how to give out pre-order bonuses. I have my pack of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom trading cards at home.
Are you for real? A pack of trading cards? You don't pay attention to gaming news do you?

To be fair Tatsunoko versus Capcom is a wii game, I'm not sure wii games even have DLC so someone who buys capcom games for wii probably doesn't care about all the on disk bullshit going on. Plus a trading card pack is pretty sweet, you got to admit.

Yeah but it hardly proves Capcom's recent business practices are all A OK does it?

Oh not at all, but it explains the poster's thought process and rational considering that was his example.

So then you can't comment on what Capcom's doing then because you don't have any knowledge about it. And could you start quoting people when you respond to them? It just makes things a little easier.

Look I'm a big fan of Capcom but I still think their recent business practices are shitty. You can't comment on them because you only care about the Wii so, as you've said yourself, you don't know what they get up to. Just because it hasn't affected you personally doesn't mean it's not happening and I can guarantee that if the Wii had as good an online ecosystem as the 360 and the PS3 then Capcom would be pulling the exact same shit on that too.

And again, could you please quote people? No one knows you've responded to them and you keep having to go back to the thread.

I'm okay with a middle ground to be honest. Releasing a full set of characters and then adding more characters (maybe like five or so) in content packs, that's fine to me.

Harada's main argument against doing that is that it can mess with the balance of the game and can cause compatibility issues online. Fortunately he's decided to have the characters unlocked for free instead of getting us to pay for the characters that are already on disc like Capcom did.

This...this man brings tears of joy to my eyes. For he is genius.

Those who buy new get the bonus characters early, and those who buy later will have to wait...but don't need to pay more to get them unlocked.

This is good. This is smart. This makes people want to buy it early, without forcing htem to do it, nor does it rip them off. He's a freakin hero.

Yeah, I really wish more developers had his attitude. I was gonna buy it on day one regardless because I love Tekken but this is just a bonus :D

I quote people only if my post isn't immediately after theirs. Otherwise we get long, annoying quote chains.
Yeah but noone knows you've responded to them so the thread goes nowhere. If you don't want a long quote chain then delete the previous posts or replace the posts with 'snip'

I love Harada-san. And yes, I'm totally hyped for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, mostly due to not actually having to play tag-style, though the option is appreciated. I'll be getting it as soon as possible.

I do appreciate this outlook on game content as the biggest reason I've avoided Street Fighter X Tekken entirely is because of the slimy way Capcom's trying to make money off of it. You could say it was the title that made me go from never buying Capcom games handled douche-ly to never buying Capcom games period.

At least, as big a Street Fighter fan as I am, I like Tekken more, and while I always wanted Street Fighter and Tekken to cross over, I care way more about Namco's take on the crossover than Capcom's.

Yes, indeed. Now if only Capcom-Unity posted it. The comments would just swarm with sarcastic former-fans, embittered fans, and unbelievably obedient, sycophantic tools.

Wow, that's....that's really fantastic, I think I'll pre-order that game just because of that.

I also enjoy Ubisoft's U-Play,(say what you will) you do some things in-game and unlock alt. costumes/multi- characters.

So MML3 cancellation and AAI2/PWvsPL not being localized weren't news to you?

Just wondering if you knew about it.
