Loved Lost Planet 1 and 2.

Not sure why people are complaining about only 20% of Capcom's titles being original/new ips only. I mean look at their line up from the past few years.

New IPs I can remember from a few years ago:

Bayonetta (Published not developed by)
Movie Games
Lost Planet 1 & Dead Rising 1 (Not sure if these count as they already received sequels)
They had nothing to do with Bayonetta, that was Platinum and Sega. Though other new IPs include Ghost Trick, Dark Void, Last Ranker and some others with their future in new development looking great with Asura's Wrath and Dragon's Dogma.

They don't exactly make a ton of new series but they have at least two or three on every system out there which is much more than many other publisher/developers. How many new IPs do EA, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and Activision have? Somewhere around 3, maybe 4 when you put them all together.

20% may not sound like much but they actually plan for new titles on a regular basis compared to just adding something new in when its convenient for them.

20% for original titles is 100% stupid
And that's where the thread should end. 80% OUT OF THE ENTIRE SET OF RESOURCES IS DEDICATED TO SEQUELS!! WTF!!

Again, what is this fear of taking gambles in the video game business? You don't see this happening in ANY other industry, which constantly innovate to stay competitive. Not to mention one of the most respected veterans coming up with fresh new ideas and you turn him down?

Sequels/Reboots/Remakes from a few years ago:

Street Fighter 4
Super Street Fighter 4
Resident Evil 5
Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes
MotoGP 09/10
Lost Planet 2
Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Devil May Cry 4
Bionic Commando (The 2009 reboot)
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2
Dead Rising 2
Megaman 9 & 10
Yes, Lost Planet and Dead Rising Count, because the first games were new IP. The movie games do not, because they are existing IP created by someone else.

Keiji, man, I love you. Thanks for being a dick, exploiting your companies system, and bringing to light one of my favorite games.

Well, that's at least better than everyone under EA's banner. Their policy is to release 20 percent of the game with the disc and 80 percent as DLC.

Despite initial rejection, Inafune continued to work on Dead Rising and Lost Planet. He said prototypes have their own budget within Capcom, so he exploited the system by continuing to work on the Lost Planet "prototype" until it was four times its initial budget. His goal was to get halfway through development so management would be forced to give him permission to finish the over-budget, nearly complete title. His plan worked.
Brave man. Good for him.

It's a pity that such measures might be necessary to get a strong new IP out the door from one of the major players.

20% on original is actually kinda smart, it does mean there is original content but it also means that there is sequels which is what many fans of franchises like and it can pretty much guarantee sales meaning Capcom makes more money so it can cope with losses from failed original content.

besides, 20% original is more than most other companies do.

They definitely should have dismissed Lost Planet 2. It was the game that made me stop pre-ordering entirely.

Geez, no wonder he left. If that's what you have to do to get a game to get some support...

Although they should have left Lost Planet alone. The only good thing to come out of that franchise was some funny episodes of Unskippable.

And Capcom is 100% retarded.

Glad he left, he'll do far better being able to make his own decisions for his projects. Capcom will be crippled for it too. They'll have to resort to making Street Fighter V and charging 12 dollars for each character.

What's funnier if a sequel is different from the original it instantly gets bashed. Please don't appear as hypocrites everyone. We as gamers don't allow this industry to evolve much.Everything new and different is a gamble. It may or may not work which is why they invest millions in something that can sell and 50% of profits go for funding new titles.Simple business idea that works and you can't blame them for doing that.

I'm pretty sure the numbers for Activision aren't that far away from those 20% either...
