Pretty much this. The reason I spend so little on games these days is because barely anything decent comes out under a new name- its all sequels and tie ins to a rather disgusting degree.
And we're talking CAPCOM here, one of the few developers left I actually TRUST to release decent new material from time to time.

Again, what is this fear of taking gambles in the video game business? You don't see this happening in ANY other industry, which constantly innovate to stay competitive.

Uh, the movie industry?

I'm afraid that I must disagree. Every movie that has come out in the past ten years is...what? A comic book movie, sequel, remake, or an extremely generic action and/or romantic comedy.

Edit: Before anyone mentions Inception, the entire concept of that movie was stolen from Scrooge McDuck. No, I'm not joking.
