They're bluffing. This is just capcom's newest scheme. They know it's going to sell, and even be somewhat of a console seller. The fact that they believe people will PAY for a DEMO(something that is ussually free) shows you they already know it's viable for a full release.

This seems poorly thought out. I have no interest in the prototype but I want to play the full game. It's like Case Zero for Dead Rising 2-I think it's superfluous and I don't care what it adds, I wouldn't pay an additional five dollars on top of the retail price for a little more of the game.
Interesting idea, but I completely disagree with this concept. I find it insulting that a company would go so low as coercing their fan base to buy something else to play a game they are waiting for. If that were the case, I would want a coupon reimbursing me of that money towards the purchase of Legends 3 so that I would be getting the Prototype for free for committing to the purchase of the game.
Release it for the PSN and I'll download like 47 copies of it. Somehow.

Capcom is a huge contender for most greedy piece of shit game company. This doesn't make any fucking sense at all, why not just do the game properly? Trying to milk it for all it's worth, just like your DLC strategy maybe?
Getting your fans hopes up with all this, only to find out there's a huge chance it will be cancelled is a dick move.
Not to mention it's only on a system nowhere near as many people will have as they'd like to.
If they were smart, they would re-release the first two games to test how people like them before going ahead with all this. Perhaps a compilation of both on the 3DS with enhancements as well as releasing them on the PSN? I would actually have a go at them if they were released as PSone classics, I've never played them.

To me it sounds like they are just going to use this as an excuse to justify not green lighting a new legends game.

Guys, don't you get it? They're not trying to come up with an excuse to CANCEL it. They're (the games ACTUAL devteam) trying to come up with an excuse to MAKE it.
The Devroom (legends 3 forums) only have about 11,000 members, between japan AND the entire west. Do those sound like good sales figures to you?
Anyway it will cost 200 ($2.40) yen on the japanese 3ds shop. They haven't said whether we'll have to pay.

They're not having "second thoughts", the game was never Green-lit in the first place, its been in post-production. The fact that its going to be released on a new platform (the 3ds) is likely one of the main things keeping it afloat. It's garnering attention. Think about it: the prototype is going to be a LAUNCH TITLE on nintendo's new download service.
