Capcom Plans Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica Revival

The recent past of the Resident Evil series is getting gussied up for modern consoles.

Capcom is resurrecting two Resident Evil games from the previous console generation. The latest issue of Famitsu reveals that Capcom is working on something called Biohazard: Revival Selection - Biohazard being the name for the Resident Evil series in Japan - which contains Resident Evil 4 and the Dreamcast version of Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

Code Veronica came out in 2000, and was the first Resident Evil game not to debut on a Sony console. It tells the story of the Chris and Claire Redfield, who become embroiled in a scheme by the founders of the villainous Umbrella Corporation. Resident Evil 4 came out five years later and featured Resident Evil 2 star Leon S Kennedy on a mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley, from a mysterious European cult. It was a significant departure from the previous games in the series, both in terms of gameplay and story, and formed the template that later Resident Evil games would follow.

Details on the collection itself are a little scarce, however. Capcom is bringing the collection to the PS3 and Xbox 360, and is giving the two games a visual upgrade to get them to high-definition resolutions. The collection will also include Resident Evil 4's "Separate Ways" side story - awkwardly titled "The Another Order" in Japan - which features Ada Wong and her connection to perennial series villain, Albert Wesker. Unfortunately that's all the information we have at the moment; the release date and price are still to be determined, and there's no indication as to how far along the project is, or if it will ever make its way to the West.

Can't say I'm terribly surprised given Capcom's history of re-releasing their old stuff with minimal differences.

Still... Re4 looks nice even by modern day standards.
I hope they don't go ret-conning the plot, but otherwise I don't really care.

If the version of RE4 included has less jaggies, I'm all for another playthrough.
Having said that, I think I'd miss the Wii controls horribly.

As was said above, I want to see Resis 1, 2 and 3 all done in HD. Considering they largely take place in the same setting (especially 2 and 3) you could re-use the assets. Plus I prefered Resident Evil when it was all about zombies in the apocalyptic city setting with gameplay focusing on conserving ammo, rather than farmhand toting villagers and a main hero carrying enough armaments to make a medium sized militia shit their pants.

Getting this, hopefully we're looking at another £20 - £25 collection like GoW and Sly, but if its a full price title, it'll have to be put on the back-burner as one to watch until it's hits discounted level. I'm not going in £40 for 2 games I can get for under £10 normally is all I'm getting at.

Otherwise, definitely a purchase for me, it'll be one hell of a weekend.

Instant purchase from me then, sweet deal, as long as it's cheaper price range and they don't fuck up the features of course.

Also Capcom, why the fuck haven't you released good Mega Man compilations for download or something? I'm in Australia, it's ridiculously hard to find anything, I'm not paying Collectors prices for it. Sorry, it's on my mind at the moment.

No thanks. I still got my RE4 box and I hate all the other resi games. Unless it was a real graphical upgrade I'm not interested.

Man, the range of ports for RE 4 is getting absurd. I miss the times when it was a Gamecube exclusive and we could be all "Yeah, suck it Xbox!".

Come to think of it, RE 4 was so graphically stunning that it seemed hard to imagine that it could be significantly improved on. It's strange to think of it as graphically dated now.

I really couldn't care less, what is the point, now an RE remake of 1-3 on theo ther hand...i.e. before the series became an action-adventure instead of survival horror

I'll take the 4 remake...

Never managed to beat it, thanks to a scratch on my RE4 Wii Edition disc that makes the last chapter of the game unplayable.

"Okay, guys... we admit we screwed up the last game badly, alright? He's something that you liked before to make up for it while we do some soul searching..."

I really looked forward to RE5 before its release, then got a bit pissed when it turned out to be RE4 re-skinned with no new features as such (apart from co-op). RE4 is one of my top 5 favourite games of all time, would LOVE an HD remake

I'd prefer if they just remade a better version of RE5 or something. Heck, I'd even be happy with a mercenaries game released by itself in pretty shiny graphics.

Though if they finally get down the shoot and move thing, I would buy it.
