I find this darkly amusing. Capcom has been forsaking the survival horror elements of the series for the last few installments already. This seems like them just continueing the trend of pounding more nails into the coffin of the franchise.

I also find it odd to hear them talking about a "differant universe in the same world" which is a contridiction. Simply put the bottom line is that they want to use the recognition of the franchise name, to release an entirely differant style of game, and maybe grab some of the shooter audience from "Left 4 Dead".

I'd think that instead they should be playing to their strengths and going back into a more hardcore "survivial horror" direction, because really I think they have been hurting themselves since "Resident Evil 4" which was a nice departure, but politics aside I don't exactly think "RE 5" has been being praised as an action game very much, indeed the general fan reaction to it is negative from what I've seen.

What? The spin-off is in a different genre? This is an outrage apparently!!

Seriously, did people complain about the new direction in Mario RPG, Halo Wars, Megaman Battle Network, or other spin-offs? They want to do something different in the same universe, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Why would you say this Capcom?

You're practically making it a guarantee that I will only rent this game now.

Also hopefully the fact that it isn't being made in the same style as the main REs means that it won't be necessary to understand any story.

You can say unique all you like but it still sounds like a left 4 dead with RE tagged on only this time they going full-out with the co-op (looks at the RE5)

You mean they haven't been doing that already?

my guess this will be to Left4Dead what 28 Weeks later was to 28 Days later.
That actually makes sense. Hopefully it won't be terrible and using a ton of clic- oh wait.

Why does Capcom hate everyone? First, DmC (Not even going there) and now this.

When I think about RE, I think of horror games/genre. That's the appeal. People don't buy RE games because of its plot or because of the memorable characters or because of the graphics. RE has none of those; it's all about shooting creepy creatures and peeing your pants a little. I still remember when RE2 came out. I considered a really scary game and it truly freaked me out whenever I would play at night. People want this, Capcom! I'm not gonna buy Silent Hill so I can play, let's say, a RPG or a puzzle game.

Outbreak was good but not as good as, let's say, RE4. RE4 was okay, flaws and all. Not awesome, just okay. Like everyone is saying, I'm seeing this as a wannabe CoD/L4D. No, no, spin offs are okay! some spin offs are really good because they keep key elements of the saga. Yoshi's Island, Megaman Legends, and who knows what else. These games draw elements from past games but keep the same gameplay and recognizable fun factor of the saga. But RE with no creepy factor? Sorry, but this isn't a RE game. yes, expand the plot, if you want. Im always up for that. But remember what makes a RE truly a RE game. Running around shooting creepy creatures in the distance a la CoD is NOT a good idea. Heck, forget this. I think I might as well go play Bioshock or Killzone or whatever.

I think everyone needs to stop hating. We've seen one trailer and heard a few things. Lets just give it a few months and see what develops.

I really love the RE Universe, but I am coming to love it less and less as time goes on. Why are you changing the brand? I'll most definitely play it, but I hope it's not just another shooter, with just another co-op element like all the others. Also, the name leads me to believe it takes place around the RE2-RE3 time, which was fantastic anyway.

I'm quite disappointed by a lack of survival-horror. That's exactly what drew me to the series in the first place. And there just aren't many survival-horror games around these days. I did enjoy Resident Evil 4, but my favourites are the 'Cube REmake and Code Veronica - survival-horror at its best.

I did enjoy Resi 4, though, so I'll most likely pick this up because I'm still a huge fan of the Resident Evil universe. I just hope it's more Resi 4 than Resi 5.

Ugh...

If I wanted L4D style gaming I'd play L4D.

If I want RE style gaming it looks like I have to play RE 1,2 and 3.

I probably won't be getting this game, infact I may end up purging it from my memory until it is released and there are threads created about how good/bad it is then when they go I'll forget about it again...

I'm slightly dissapointed about this though, I wanted the next Resident Evil game to be more like the first 3 and less like the fifth (In which I never ran low on ammo or herbs in and felt was very action intensive instead of horror)

Hopefully Resident Evil 6 will be closer to what I want.

"We aren't aiming for another horror game, but a shooting game"

When was the last time you actually made a horror game? 2002?

I am sorry but I laughed my way trough the game at how bad it was.

1- The AI is really, really bad. It isnt even about the AI itself, they can go from one spot to another without problems but the enemies lack consistency.

Ex.:
Why do the enemies slow down when 5 feet away from you? Why do they walk like zombies only when 5 feet away? They can run, ride bikes, ride boats, ride trucks, use weapons but since its a zombie game they must slow down. BAD FUCKING DESIGN.

2- The controls are terrible and end up being a way of just making the game harder.
I cant walk while aiming? Why? Why must I exit the aiming stance to walk? I understand that they dont want me to strafe around and shooting at the same time but this?

Here's an idea, let the player walk BUT while walking the gun shakes a lot making it hard to hit anything. Its realistic and it doesnt make you die from cheap deaths.

This isnt even a horror game so why did they chose a control scheme made for slow paced games?

3- Dialogues and cutscenes, its funny that in every event related to zombies Umbrella is always there but they still act all suprised when they see the logo.

The villains monologues are so bad:

"Look at me! I have this thing with a button!"

"Dont do it! (while pointing him a gun)"

"I will, its getting closer to my neck"

"I will shoot"

"It is sticking in my neck, Im going to press the button"

"Stop!"

He presses the button, transforms into a monster, Chris and Sheeva look at him with the faces of "OMG WTF!?" although it is the third guy that pulled that stunt off that day and now I have to fight a huge monster while searching for rockets.

There is more crap in the game but I think that this is enough for now. I really hate that people gave this game good scores when it came out mainly because of beeing a Resident Evil game, now they look back and see how shitty, predictable, cheesy it was.
Come on man, Resident Evil has always been cheesy and predictable, that's part of the fun, it's B movie stuff. I've never really had a problem with the controls, Resi 5 is game that focuses on positioning and gauging distance, and if that's not your cup of tea, I can understand that, but I don't really think it's bad design. In fact, I'm good at this game BECAUSE of it's control scheme whcih I prefer over other shooters'.

Granted I also think it's kind of silly that they stop just short of you and start walking, but that pretty much goes away if you put the game on Veteran or Professional and even on Normal it only really happens with the enemies in the first area. I don't think I give this game a free pass for it's Resiness, I'd like it even if it were like....Metal Slug 8! (Which is what my friends have taken to calling it)

Also, If your not playing this game Split-Screen Co-op on Veteran or Professional, you're doing it wrong.

This could be awesome - Raccoon City before the nuke hit, they could go totally over the top with canon showing same locals as RE2/Nemesis and even fight the Nemesis (he does disappear and reappear from Jill's story alot) all played in a L4D style

lol, I still have a laugh when fans of the series try to justify the story or the quality of the series.

Resident Evil is a cash cow, how many flops do we fans need to understand that? Resident Evil 5 was a joke.
Resi 5 wasn't a flop. You just don't like it, there's a difference.

You know, this didn't nearly annoy me as much. But i've no point against it

The design choice was made to make things tense, not scary. The scheme made this work extremely well when combined with chainsaw dude chasing you

Resident evil isn't exactly phrased for its story. Its hilarious B movie material, always has been.

4- This: At 6:18

One bad cutscene does not ruin an entire game.

Read the bold bits and stop expecting perfection. You've obviously placed your expectations of it way too high and come away from it disappointed.

Plus it'll be interesting to play as the umbrella clean up crew soldiers during the outbreak.
Didn't we already have that with Hunk in Resident Evil 2?

OT: Seriously... they shouldn't bother with a game like this. As it's already been said, there are many 3rd person shooters around. I don't even LIKE games like that. RE5 pretty much buggered the series for me anyway. By cutting out the original point of the series (survival horror), they're just alienating the older fans of the series in order to bring in a bunch of kids who like guns and will play the game for about a week before switching to some other game.
Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against shooter games OR anyone who plays them, but I've always seen a game as something you should happily go back to at any point and love it just as much as you did the first time you played it. This route just isn't what made the series enjoyable.

every time i read about a third person shooter i just want them to say it will have going fast and slow motion like vanquish. they never say it, i shed a single tear each time.
