Urr...Why not shut down the RE series...really it has been done to death. Or at least make a stop....

Just look at how many there are:

Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil: Survivor
Resident Evil: Survivor 2 Code: Veronica
Resident Evil: Dead Aim
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Resident Evil Outbreak
Resident Evil Outbreak File #2
Resident Evil Gaiden
Resident Evil: The Missions
Resident Evil Confidential Report
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
Resident Evil: Genesis
Resident Evil: Degeneration

Thats one milked franchise right there...

As I've said before, the most important thing to me is that they keep the so-bad-its-good writing, I'm OK.

Hmm it seems to me that they should do a game with HUNK as the main character. I mean come on we know nothing about him, other than he is a badass commando who works for umbrella(well I cant say that hes a full time employee), his nick name is Mr Death and that he can snap necks like Steven Sagal.

I'm interested in RE as a series. The narrative change looks to be interesting, but the real question is what kind of gameplay Capcom will go for: the traditional survival horror of the olden days, or the action-survival of the new.
As much as I want Resi 5, Im still missing the Zombie as an enemy. Track back a few years and imagine a Resi 1 zombie riding a bike whilst you shoot at them, it is laughable. Whilst the new Plagus enemies are challenging and still scary, they are still the new kids in the Resiverse, and they will never scare me as much as the Zombie's used to.

R.I.P (again) pixellated Zombies.
I know. When you're going through the old lab (where you first fight the Lickers) I thought it would have been the perfect time to give us some old-school zombies to shoot. It wouldn't have quite fit in with the story, true, but just couple locked in a room somewhere would have been nice.

Here's hoping a part of the 'new direction' is being able to fire from the hip.
No, Aiming and shooting while moving is fine, but shooting moving and not aiming is not. You turn this from 'tactical' to 'wiz-bang-shooty-genericness'. It may not seem like a big deal, but just picture chris "running and gunning".

Resident Evil's formula seems to have always been "Move, Stop, Aim, Shoot" - just take out the "stop" part so that we don't feel like we're controlling a bus.

Yeah true, just add a little bonus room when the protagonist is like wtf when he is suddenly being hugged by some zombies. The narration for that would be hilarious ^^

If they really say that 1-4 (and everything in between) is "act one" they should rename the next games.

Wow. I guess Capcom is willing to say and do anything in order to ride their current wave of popularity, even dismissing their previous games as a mere precursor to their upcoming titles.

I don't know about other people, but I think they're full of hot air.

And it is a shame about the removal of Zombies. I'll admit I like fast zombies better than slow ones, but at least RE4 had Regenerators.

But hey, pretty soon Capcom will put out a game so sexist/racist that it offends every person and political group on the planet, and then the company will fade into obscurity.

Here's a suggestion to add to the, "They'll never ever do this," but how about we FINALLY remove the name "Resident Evil" and just make it "Biohazard" like it is supposed to be? Resident Evil was an appropriate name for the first one because it took place in a mysterious mansion, and you could argue that the people in it, or "Residents," were evil zombies. I really don't think it is appropriate when you expand the populace into an entire town (RE2/3) or village (RE4).

Also, I think we'd have to say that RE4 marked the new direction for the series. For one, the Survival Horror aspect was scaled way back to enhance the action aspect. Secondly, for the first time, the "virus" afflicting everyone was derived back to a more natural virus, as opposed to something that a crazy scientist made in a hidden Umbrella Corporation lab. And finally, it took the action out of Raccoon City and the United States.

Of course, they may be referring to RE5 as a new direction because now the series is going to SUCK more than it did when RE3 came out, but hopefully that is not the case.

i wasnt so sure about buying this game after i heard it went towards the action side of things but i bought it yesterday and im loving it. the boss battles look awesome, the graphics are great. its alot more action that say resident evil 2 but why is this such a bad thing ? It still has its scary moments. personally i thought the mining part with the lantern was pretty creepy. i like the new direction. things have to be brought forward ay some point huh ?

Typical dumbass American blabbing his mouth about something he knows nothing, meanwhile the actual producer of the game says that they are going in a different direction.

I don't think one less franchise with zombies is going to eliminate zombies from games forever. I don't even think it will make a dent, given how about 80% of survival horror games have the exact same Romero zombies with the serial numbers filed off.

I suppose but most games these days have the new zombie the ones that are insanly fast and can magically teleport (alright not that) bloody Dawn of the Dead 2004
