I feel no guilt for loving Marvel. And you're feeding into the 'us vs them' just as much as anyone else. Here Comes Tomorrow said:It's just Disney using the Us vs Them tactics that Sony invented for Ghostbusters to prop up a mediocre film.Hawki said:Y'know, I'm actually curious as to how that's going to turn out.PsychedelicDiamond said:I don't care about the movie but I want it to be succesful because of how annoying the people wanting it to flop are.
Like, any positive press for the film can be written off as "shills." But if the film makes big bucks (and projections say it will), how do you spin that? Brainwashing? Virtue signalling? I guess maybe "the film didn't make as much money as Disney would like" ala Last Jedi, but apart from that...
What sucks is that the film barely looks interesting enough to warrant such controversy, and as far as I can tell, none of the controversy stems from the film itself, but rather comments made by Brie Larson.
It's nice that you'll just throw money at whatever mediocre crap gets shovelled towards you but I don't really want to reward Disney for making the least possible effort.Saelune said:Meh, I don't care. Its super heroes, Marvel super heroes, and its great. I for one am loving the sci-fi/fantasy stuff. Here Comes Tomorrow said:No. I don't mean "why aren't there space aliens and a funny mascot" I mean there is no obvious distinct style or look to it. Thor: Ragnarok had a distinct style and look. Dr Strange had the trippy kaliedoscope look. Guardians went full comic scifi.Saelune said:There are space aliens and a cat out of Men In Black. Watch the movie first maybe? Here Comes Tomorrow said:Black Panther and Ant Man and The Wasp were pretty dull and from what I'm hearing of Captain Marvel its just another generic Marvel movie. The "good" formula Marvel relies on is wearing thin and I'm not sure I'll bother seeing this in the cinema. If I do it'll be because nothing else is on and Avengers: Endgame will tie into it. Even that film I'm only really going to see to book end the last decade. I doubt I'm going to bother with Marvel after that.altnameJag said:Well, they've got a good formula attached to a decent story and a massive amount of forward momentum.
It's a shame because I've been a Marvel fan all my life and I thought after Guardians, Thor: Ragnarok and Dr Stange they'd embrace the crazy side of their setting more and look to make films with a bit more of a unique feel to them. I feel like if they continue on this path their films numbers will drop after Endgame unless something big happens like they get the Fantastic Four or X-Men rights back.
Captain Marvel looks "safe". Like the first few Marvel films when they weren't sure if the films would work so they didn't get too crazy so as not to alienate people and Thor was the most fantastic they were willing to get and even he was punted to Earth to have generic adventures.
