Y'know, I'm actually curious as to how that's going to turn out.

Like, any positive press for the film can be written off as "shills." But if the film makes big bucks (and projections say it will), how do you spin that? Brainwashing? Virtue signalling? I guess maybe "the film didn't make as much money as Disney would like" ala Last Jedi, but apart from that...

What sucks is that the film barely looks interesting enough to warrant such controversy, and as far as I can tell, none of the controversy stems from the film itself, but rather comments made by Brie Larson.
It's just Disney using the Us vs Them tactics that Sony invented for Ghostbusters to prop up a mediocre film.

Well, they've got a good formula attached to a decent story and a massive amount of forward momentum.
Black Panther and Ant Man and The Wasp were pretty dull and from what I'm hearing of Captain Marvel its just another generic Marvel movie. The "good" formula Marvel relies on is wearing thin and I'm not sure I'll bother seeing this in the cinema. If I do it'll be because nothing else is on and Avengers: Endgame will tie into it. Even that film I'm only really going to see to book end the last decade. I doubt I'm going to bother with Marvel after that.

It's a shame because I've been a Marvel fan all my life and I thought after Guardians, Thor: Ragnarok and Dr Stange they'd embrace the crazy side of their setting more and look to make films with a bit more of a unique feel to them. I feel like if they continue on this path their films numbers will drop after Endgame unless something big happens like they get the Fantastic Four or X-Men rights back.
There are space aliens and a cat out of Men In Black. Watch the movie first maybe?
No. I don't mean "why aren't there space aliens and a funny mascot" I mean there is no obvious distinct style or look to it. Thor: Ragnarok had a distinct style and look. Dr Strange had the trippy kaliedoscope look. Guardians went full comic scifi.

Captain Marvel looks "safe". Like the first few Marvel films when they weren't sure if the films would work so they didn't get too crazy so as not to alienate people and Thor was the most fantastic they were willing to get and even he was punted to Earth to have generic adventures.
Meh, I don't care. Its super heroes, Marvel super heroes, and its great. I for one am loving the sci-fi/fantasy stuff.
It's nice that you'll just throw money at whatever mediocre crap gets shovelled towards you but I don't really want to reward Disney for making the least possible effort.
I feel no guilt for loving Marvel. And you're feeding into the 'us vs them' just as much as anyone else.

So far I just know a lot of people are salty about this movie cause the actress is annoyingly smug or something and made some divisive remarks in real life...and that it has a cat.

I try to separate the art from the artist so no matter how annoying she may be, the movie is not to blame. Also this is marvel so if they can make Antman into a decently fun film they can manage with Captain Marvel too. I expect it to be a decent film at around a 7.5-8 range. The feminist angle doesn't really tell me anything at all since any ideology can be made into a good or bad movie. It takes a special sort of someone to dismiss something out of hand merely for an idea without first seeing how they handle it.

(though to be honest I would prefer the captain marvel movie were one about the two decades worth of comics she was inside Rogue's head during XD)

Can't say anything in the trailer made it look like anything other than another generic Marvel movie. Like with Black Panther I'm glad that a specific group that is underrepresented in these movies finally gets some representation, but that doesn't stop it from looking utterly bland. I'll just be over there waiting for Shazam and Brightburn.
Trailers spoil too much. I honestly had no idea Fury was going to be a main character in this, and honestly, maybe they are just learning from spoiling Hulk in Ragnarok.

But as I said, people who don't like MCU are probably never going to like MCU, so I really don't care if they still don't like MCU, cause MCU is why I even go to the movies most of the time.
I like the MCU.. when a proper director is at the helm. The problem is that Marvel is cranking these movies out like it's an esembly line, and they all have to "fit in" making them look super samey. The MCU squashes directors' creativity. James Gunn sorta got left alone, but then they fired him, and Taika Waititi only got to make half a good movie, the other half being the obvious Marvel mandate of 'this needs to be in to set up the next movie'.

With all the shared universe fangasming these movies have lost a sense of identity.

I hope Marvel can get the X-Men rights back after Dark Phoenix bombs so we can see Rogue steal her powers.

They already do. Whether or not they will add the X-Men to the MCU though is unknown.

The same.

People were already gunning for this movie and Brie Larson since day one, and then she says something that could be discribed at best as slightly awkward and they take it as a starting shot to dogpile on her. This pathetic nerdrage reminds me of the announcement of the She-Ra reboot, and how all these 30-something guys suddenly lost their shit and how it's "ruining" a property no one cared about for the last 25 years.

Brie Larson is always appreciated, so is the 70s and 90s, on these little basis I was already sold. Apparently Brie said some stuff that made the tinterweb manbabies have a shit fit, no idea what it was but can only imagine it involved white genocide or some crap. Can't help but wonder if they put the same bitter energy towards Mel Gibson's output too.

oh yeah, a cute kittie cat certainly helps, for sure. but I will be sorely disappointed if it doesn't have a heroic moment somewhere

While I have little interest in seeing the movie for now: this makes up for the "feminist agenda".
It doesn't make up for you thinking that empowering women is a negative though.
Somebody isn't going to go see the film --> they must be against empowering women. How nice of you to feed into that stereotype.
Oh please, you insinuated that is a criticism of the movie you have.

I think there are plenty of people who wont see it cause they just hate the MCU entirely. I dont think they are sexist.
You can think what you want. The few reviews of the movie I read say Captain Marvel doesn't repeat the marketing cringefest, if there ever even was one in the first place. They also say it's a rather familiar Marvel solo movie. *yawn*

So, here's the issue.

I normally hate Comic Book movies. I know too much of the lore that it makes me annoyed to see what it's being turned into. The Civil War being fought by a handful of heroes? Where are the Villains turned Renegade Hunters? The New Warriors... The Stamford Incident.

Thor Ragnarok being Planet Hulk... and having the INSULT of Hulk being a secondary character in his most defining story ever.

I know there was an problem about Mutants and Character licensing and all of that. And I'm glad people like these movies. But I can't separate my knowledge with what is being presented.

That being said... Given Rogue possibly not existing in this timeline, there is little chance of Danvers biggest trauma being shown on screen. Marvel has always been a character driven by her Torment. So, is there anything to replace this drama, or is she just born in Marvel a perfect being?

From what I've read she's born perfect and then her bosses slap some tape on her neck that inhibits her powers without her knowing.

Also I totally forgot Disney bought bits of Fox.

You read some misleading stuff then. I do not think the trauma Jones is talking about is present, but she wasn't perfect. She isn't born with her powers, she gets them later, and well, spoilers but the inhibitor was holding her back, evil villain plans, blah blah blah.

Look, I think as a progressive person who doesn't want to believe made up BS you need to see this movie, cause the amount of blatant misinformation and anti-women agenda going on is disturbing.

The more I think about it, the more unfair I'm probably being.

Rogue happened like a decade and a half after Captain Marvel's creation.

And for the recorded, Rogue is a mutant with the ability to steal the memories and abilities of whoever she touches for a long period of time, capable of permanently keeping both on the pain of death if the skin-to-skin contact is long enough.

Rogue touched Marvel so long that it put Danvers in a decade long coma and that's why Rogue could fly, have super strength, and the lot... No energy projection though.

Still loathed to see Comic Book Movies... Can't I just buy a ticket for support? :(

Eh, I liked Black Panther (which, for the record, was HORRIBLE for inaccuracies) and Spider-Verse made me want to tear up. Judge every instance by its own merit, not what came before it, right?

I just think you should be aware of what the movie actually is rather than letting people mislead you.

I really liked it though, and I mean, yeah, I am someone who loves MCU movies by default, but this one easily tops my favorites list.

Glad to hear it's good. I was planning to see it regardless for the same reason as Psychadelic Diamond and Casual Shinji, just like when I heard the Trumpists boycotting Star Wars.

This ain't Ghostbusters. This is just a Marvel comic book film that just so happens to have a strong-willed female lead (and this particular character has been known for being both powerful and stubborn to a fault for longer than most of us have been alive). It is in no possible way a negative quality, and for many it is a positive. So long as the movie itself keeps up the Marvel standard of quality, then all is well.

I didn't like Ragnarock very much. Its a good movie, but I honestly thought it was the weakest of all the Thor movies. Very...Hot Topicy...
Anything in this movie that I need to know for Avengers or its it kinda Ant Man like where I can skip it and the character just appears?

It explains Fury's connection to her, and there is an Avengers after-credits. There is also an after-after credits, but honestly, its reasonable to skip it.
