This matters not to me, as long as the game comes out for the PC and is good.

360 is the main development platform. He said as much years ago before he even announced the name of the game.
Aren't they cutting content out of the 360 version because of storage space? At least that's what Mazty said, using it as a reason to justify the PS3's Blu-Ray player, but then again how much of that could you believe (that being said, he tends to back up his arguments with facts, but I'm sketchy on that one).

That being said, where is ol' Mazty? He was an interesting debate partner.

It's been like that for about 20 years or so, going up and down in popularity as certain games and consoles are released. It's got an ebb and flow to it.

And seeing as how PC games still break sales charts nearly monthly, repeatedly... no, it's not going anywhere any time soon. ESPECIALLY not with BLOCKBUSTER games that entire countries parade for.

What HAS been dying are developers making full priced titles that should be budget priced. THAT has died for sure. I mean, looking at the number of PC titles that cost $10-20 is astounding, and you can thank piracy for that one. But there's no denying that specific franchises sell incredibly well on PC, better than console games do, despite 'heavy piracy'.
PC gaming will never die. So long as there is a World of Warcraft there will always be PC gaming.

Plus most games are modable on PC, which greatly extends their life.

Carmack thinks that consoles handsets are better than keyboard and mouse.

Mr. Carmack, try playing Quake with a console and we'll see who's fraggin' who.

A post apocalyptic racing game?

With guns?

I don't know what to say, this is either going to be brilliant or the worst thing I've ever seen.
It's Mad Max: The Game being made by id Software, how could this possibly go wrong...
It could be like Mad Max 4: Fury Road and get impossibly delayed.

I had to say it, don't hurt me.

Fallout is not the only post-apocalyptic game out there. Nor does it have a copyright on the post-apocalyptic genre.
You wake up underground(like in a vault) discover a mysterious authority(like The Enclave) and get to build weapons(like that feature that Bethesda showed us at E3 08.) If that doesn't count as theft, what does?
Taking something that BLATANTLY belongs to one individual.

Since the Post-Apocalyptic Ideas don't "Belong" to Bethesda, It technically isn't stealing.

Hopefully, the racing element won't take too much a front position and cars will only be used as brutally violent, rocket propelled transport.
I won't mind racing but this game sounds rather good from just this article, but I don't want it to get it's priorities wrong.

I'm tired of all these post apocalyptic games:

AquaNox, Borderlands, Cholo, Dead Island, Earthrise, Fallout 3, Gears of War, Half-Life Episode 3, I am Alive, Jame's Cameron's Dark Angel, Killzone 2, Left Behind: Eternal Forces, Mad Max, Neocron, Outlander, The Pandora Directive, Quake Wars, Resistance: Fall of Man, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Transarctica, UFO: Aftermath, Viva Piñata, Wasteland, XCOM: Genesis, Zombie Master...

Why can't John Carmack make us a nice 3D version of Hello Kitty Online?

In response to the "PC Gaming is dying" thing, I'd just like to say I prefer PC to console, I play games on my PC everyday and I haven't touched the PS2 or GameCube I own in atleast 2 or 3 months. Sadly very few people are like me so it makes sense they develop for the console first, as long as they put out for the PC gamers as well, unlike those traitors at Lionhead keeping Fable 2 out of my non-360 owning grasp

It may be much easier for them to limit content of the game to what fits on two DVDs then ship the same content for PC and PS3. That's what they say their engine and development process is good for. If they get too pissed off with that limitation then it is possible that PS3 gets more content. It's possible, you know, who knows? Not me.

Extra content that wouldn't fit on the disk sounds like paid DLC to me but I don't know if id have reached that level of proper games industry dicking around yet.

Eh, I don't expect id to half-ass it and say "now that we've said this and cleared the air, lets make a lousy and unintuitive PC port."

To answer you challange there, it would probably whoever is also playing on a console (seeing as not many games allow PC gamers and console gamers into the same game).

To a certain extent the handsets are better than a keyboard and mouse, it's a matter of personal preference.

Handsets have simplicity (which is important in fast paced, hectic shooters) while the mouse has a greater level of precision (which is mostly important for snipers).

On topic, could this focus on consoles rather than the PC possibly be interprited as revenge for all the flak iD got for Doom 3 (largely by PC gamers)?

And Fallout copied Mad Max... get over it.

And no Bethesda does not own id, Zenimax does. Zenimax also happens to own Bethesda.

Oh please, will you just go away. The PC gaming platform is far from dead and it's getting healthier. Instead of sticking to CD or DVD sales, it's starting off the trend of just downloading games instead of going out to the stores to buy them. With the next generation of consoles, it wouldn't surprise me to find the ability to download games at 'probably' cheaper prices.

Actually he doesn't. He has always stated that a controller is inferior to a keyboard and mouse when it comes to FPS controls. I believe he said it at last year's QuakeCon.

Yet for some reason the most hectic and fast-paced FPS happen to be PC games, mostly. Quake Live, Warsow, Tribes and the like. If you compare FPS titles throughout the ages, you'll notice that when they became really popular on the console, they also changed and became less about running and gunning and more about stopping and popping.

I've been thinking recently that console gamepads are superior to mouse and keyboard because WASD or RDFG (or whatever you happen to use) are misaligned and it is all too easy to press the wrong key in haste. I never press the wrong face button on my Xbox 360 gamepad. The only thing that I could fault is the D-pad, which is vastly inferior to that on the N64 (but this is because of Patent-avoidance, I understand).

Goldeneye 007 on the N64 gave its players the option to Aim, whereby the analogue stick would displace the cross-hairs of whatever weapon you were holding. This "free-floating reticle" has only been copied in Perfect Dark as far as I am aware, despite its efficacy.

Now, I don't think strafing is all that important and I concluded that it was better to keep the controls as consistent as possible regardless of whether you were on foot, swimming, driving a car, or flying a plane, etc. As we now have the luxury of twin thumbsticks we can have the left one control movement forward/back and turning left/right (whether of the vehicle 'we' control - such as the rudder of a boat, or the tailplane of an aircraft, or the yaw of a helicopter via the speed of its rear rotor - or of 'ourselves' in the gameworld), whilst the right one controls where we are looking (in a car this would mean that we could anticipate corners before we steer into them, or check traffic at junctions before moving off, or look down at our instrument panel in an aircraft, or out of the side window of our helicopter). This is great for FPSes as you can check around yourself for enemies as you move along a different, varying, path - i.e. not necessarily looking where you are going... and potentially treading on mines ;-)

It annoys me that so many developers are turning there back on the pc platform but i suppose at the end of the day they are businesses and have to make money

I use the numpad and I've never ever ever slipped with my keys and gone the wrong way. I've actually slipped with the buttons on my arcade stick more often.

Not to mention the 360 actually has controllers with better d-pads. Both Hori and Madcatz make them. Nintendo having the patent to that particular kind of d-pad really isn't an excuse.
