Well, if it suffers from built in mouse acceleration and mouse smoothing like so many console ports, I can use my xbox 360 controller... sigh.

Maybe I should just stop purchasing new computer hardware from now on, because if all the games will have ruined controls I will have no reason to bother anymore.

id has probably realized the PC gaming market is slowing dying, especially in terms of sales. but then again, it's never a bad thing to try something different at least once.
I think that image alone shuts down about 90% of the arguments about PC gaming. It's also very awesome.

OT: You know, he could be right. Developing controls for a PC game FPS is easy. WASD + Mouse + map other functions to certain keys. On the other hand, developing them for a console like the 360 or PS3 is more difficult. Maybe developing a game for a controller isn't a bad idea; the control scheme should be solid on all platforms.

I've been thinking recently that console gamepads are superior to mouse and keyboard because WASD or RDFG (or whatever you happen to use) are misaligned and it is all too easy to press the wrong key in haste.
I use the numpad and I've never ever ever slipped with my keys and gone the wrong way. I've actually slipped with the buttons on my arcade stick more often.

Not to mention the 360 actually has controllers with better d-pads. Both Hori and Madcatz make them. Nintendo having the patent to that particular kind of d-pad really isn't an excuse.
Ah, you must use the mouse on the left of your keyboard...

By the way, I feel that the 360 d-pad would have probably been ok if they hadn't had it be all squashy. Does anyone know if it registers the equivalent of a Thumbstick "click"? That would explain a lot if it did. Although, I can't think of any game that actually responds to this action.

My goodness. How much haste are you in? This [http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/keyboards-mice/8396/] is my keyboard and even I don't mess up my WASD usage.

Now, I don't think strafing is all that important ...
Ah. Suddenly understanding dawns, both of why you prefer the console controls, and why you chose your name. Never mind.

OT: Too bad. Making something so that it works well on consoles usually means a plethora of menu driven systems for any type of complexity, something that tends to break immersion and/or lead to simpler games.

This is my keyboard, which I had to smuggle in from Japan because of the toxic substances that are in it.

Oh, and make as much fun of my name as you like - it's true... I'm rubbish.

I never press the wrong face button on my Xbox 360 gamepad. The only thing that I could fault is the D-pad, which is vastly inferior to that on the N64 (but this is because of Patent-avoidance, I understand).
Aiming >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Movement in FPS

Likewise, if you think that movement is overall easier with a controller, then why are all the fast-paced FPS located on PC and not console? Hell, Epic slowed down movement speeds in UT3 just for the console version.

Also, this.

I didn't read the comments, but I'm sure there are some Livid PC gamers in the audience.

I'm happy, I haven't been a real PC gamer for years, and I'd love to see Carmack's next work at the peak of its ability, because the man is a genius. I hope he has some really creative people steering the awesome ship he's built, because he's not really a creative powerhouse, but the man knows how to make engines and make fun games.
