adventure time is pretty good, oh and the new my little pony.

(for the record, it's OK for guys to watch girly cartoons if they're well made.)

Needa get away from the kiddie stations and take a look at some of the more "adult" themed cartoons. Namely Archer, one of the most underrated shows airing today.

*grumpy old man voice* Hrumph! Back in my day we didn't have cartoons or these fancy "moving pictures"! If we wanted a picture to move, we picked it up, and moved it! And we couldn't because there were no pictures! These damn kids and their box socials and pecan sandies and hoop and stick.

OT: I don't have cable.

What happened? You grew up and now the same stuff doesn't seem as original. You still like Spongebob, and Hey Arnold, and (for some inexplicable reason) Powerpuff Girls, because you liked them when you were a kid, and so now they have a massive nostalgia factor. But if you were to go back and watch them for the first time today, it's unlikely that you'd find them even mildly enjoyable.

It's the same thing with the new cartoons, you didn't grow up watching them, you're too old to be a part of the audience that's jumping into them, and they have no nostalgia factor like your favorite cartoons.

Why does no one ever consider that it's not the world that has changed, but instead that it is they who have changed?
Well it's both. I don't think of it as nostalgia at all, there has been a big lack for originality lately and I can't get into any of the new shows today. The last one was Sponge Bob but I don't like the new episodes. Actually, Archer isn't bad, it's mixed in with clever witty humour and really stupid crap.

It's not just cartoons, it's everything. I decided to look in the past for inspiration.

You obviously haven't been watching Adventure Time or Regular Show.

Granted Regular Show probably isn't for everyone. But I love it because the characters do the exact same stupid crap me and my one friend used to do.

Adventure Time is just sweet.

Phinius and Pherb is also a pretty decent cartoon.

Also Symbionic Titan, which is made by the dude who made Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory.
yes i freaking love adventure time. and the punchies episode if regular show was great. Phineas and pherb are also really good i agree with everything you just said

Toonami and Adult Swim was without doubt the best thing Cartoon Network had before they pulled the plug on both of them :( it was thanks to both of these things that i was introduced to such awesome Animes including: Cowboy Bebop, Orphen, Trigun and Zoids New Century Zero (Fun for the robot action ;p)

I'm defending cartoons today, there's plenty good you just grew out of it. Really I don't trust the opinion of any one who says that Jimmy Neutron is one of the most noteworthy cartoons.

It got canceled though, partly because of the disney buy out but mostly because of the "all cartoons suck now" crowd refused to watch it because of misguided nostalgia, I still can't get over the loss of that show.

what about rockos modern life, doug, rugrats, beast wars, batman, superman.. I could go on but I feel old now XD
YOU feel old? People are being nostalgic over Spongebob, a show that didn't even start until I was almost out of high school...
Touche sir.
Ma'am.
Curses, and I thought their was another guy on the site that enjoyed "MY Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"

OT: Bland shows are nothing new try watching most of the cartoons from the 80s, or look at half of Hanna Barbara's library, they have a lot of Scooby-Doo was popular lets cash in on that. Nostalgia is overrated.

So far nobody has mentioned Megas XLR, which was undoubtedly the best show of its time...
I mean, it never tried to teach you a single thing throughout the whole experience.
Hell yeah.

Also, for some reason, I have not seen head nor tail of Xiaolin Showdown in ages...
Not on the internet, forums, anything...
Did everyone forget about it?

There are a few people about with MLP avatars. I know for sure that at least one of them is male, as he's a friend of mine. :)

They already have Reed's other work, Frisky Dingo which, while also good, isn't on par with Archer.

True story, but my friend and I did the "danger Zone" bit at a bar one time.
Me: jeremy....Jeremy........JEREMY.
Him: WHAT?!
Me: DANGER ZONE!

Also..Adam Reed is a GOD.
Adam Reed and his partner Matt Thompson started out at Cartoon Network doing various odd jobs until they came up with their own show called High Noon Toons in the mid-90s. High Noon Toons was a 3-hour programming block of cartoons hosted by cowboy hand puppets Haas and Lil' Jo (a Bonanza pun). While working on this show, Matt and Adam were usually heavily intoxicated and the two eventually got reprimanded for lighting one of the prop sets on fire.

Wow man, thanks! I would of never seen those 1Million threads on the first page if you didn't tell me!

Oh wait..
I was wrong there is a prize! It's called access to the search bar!
Aren't prizes supposed to be prestigious or at the very least have a certain amount of exclusivity? My god man, your prize sucks./sarcasm

So what do you want in a cartoon? Just saying that these cartoons are unoriginal won't do anything at all.

What makes a show good for you. And maybe we can find something to fit your mold

TBH, I feel all those cartoons you've listed are also bland and boring. Maybe I was just too old for them when they came out? Even Ren & Stimpy (as well as Pokemon) were aimed at a younger audience than I was when they were released.
I guess I'm really showing my age here, but I wanna know what happened to cartoons like Star Blazers, Robotech, Mysterious Cities of Gold, that kind of thing. Ooh, and Space Captain Harlock!
These cartoons from my childhood are why I became an anime fan.

On forums, the ability to even locate the search bar, much less make it work, is one of the rarest of abilities.

They probably still show reruns but, Spectacular Spiderman has been canceled for a while now. Sadly, It only had two seasons. A new Spider-Man series based on the "Ultimate" line of comics, is being worked on. It'll be led by Paul Dini, of DC Animated Universe fame. Also, to be fair to the 90's series there were a lot of things going against it. The two biggest being that it was heavily censored and the budget was nowhere near Batman: TAS. Considering that, I think the 90's series did the best with what they had.

I'm kinda annoyed that Adventure Time is being mentioned so many times. Where are the jokes in that show? A lot of times it just cute and not funny. Regular Show gets accused for being a show for people with ADD. I think it deserves more credit than that though. Regular Show episodes have real conclusions, unlike Adventure Time which sometimes end so randomly; like the writers realized they hit the 15 min. mark and decided to end it right there. There's a progression with each episode of Regular Show. Things start out pretty mundane but near the end get trippy. I actually find the mundane parts to be more funny. It's like a "slacker/work place" comedy (akin to King of the Hill or Clerks) combined with some of the more odd ones like, well, Adventure Time.

Young Justice isn't being mentioned enough. The show is brilliant. It's from the guy who brought us Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-Man. Best show on CN right now. Heck, it's probably one of the best on any network.

The new Scooby-Doo cartoon is also great. Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. is familiar but tries to flesh out the characters a bit more. The show is actually funny; it relies on sharp writing and it's characters, rather than slapstick like the previous series. It's a lot less formulaic. There's also a continuing season long mystery.

Other than that, I'm glad Sym-Bionic Titan and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is getting recognized.

I remember it and I think it's done and gone. That crappy cliffhanger bullshit they pulled was the last episode. I hate it when that happens with cartoons. The characters are getting to some really cool powers and stuff and then the plug just gets pulled on the entire show. Bastards.

OT: Seconded for Megas and can't think of any others right now.
