I think the hype and marketing surround Catherine focusses more on the sheer amount of WTF-ness in this game than the amount of hentai in it. Going by the articles on The Escapist, that seems to be the case. And I bet that they'll deliver on that frontDastardly said:I dunno... after all this hype and build-up, if the best they have to offer is mostly-obscured toplessness, I think a great many people are going to be disappointed. Specifically, the sort of person targeted by this "sexy times with sexiness and sex, too sexy for your country" marketing campaign.
Basically, they've acquired an audience based on a pretty particular promise, and it's sounding like their offerings in that department are in for a lukewarm reception. They haven't really been selling this thing on the intrigue, after all.
Yep, here you go:Patrick_and_the_ricks said:But didn't Dragon Age do the same thing and get away with it?vansau said:I'm waiting for the inevitable Fox News freakout.Thrust said:And let the controversy pot boil.
I'm waiting for the golden headline "Games cannot be art because there's nudity in it".vansau said:I'm waiting for the inevitable Fox News freakout.Thrust said:And let the controversy pot boil.
Regarding your first point, yes.RedEyesBlackGamer said:How a 10 year old shooting himself in the head with a gun shaped object got by, I'll never know.
OP: Not surprised. Actually, most people excited for the game aren't attracted by the sex appeal. It is the people behind the game.
Even without the shadow effects I wouldn't see how this in any way noteworthy (outside of the ESRB rating, of course), but maybe that's just me being European.vansau said:The game also depicts the central character surrounded by topless female demons-though shadow effects obscure most details.
And they would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those meddling "women's rights" activists.ddq5 said:I doubt it will stir up any real controversy cause it's Japanese and they seem to get away with it most times, excepting that whole RapeLay thingy.
Do you mean Atlus or the creative team specifically? Is it the same team that made Persona? If you mean people are excited just because it's one of Atlus's weird projects where were those people for Knights in the Knightmare or Izuna? As much as I love Atlus games I think I'll give this one a miss. Um, block puzzles aren't my thing. Yeah.RedEyesBlackGamer said:How a 10 year old shooting himself in the head with a gun shaped object got by, I'll never know.LifeCharacter said:Maybe it can fly under the radar like Persona did?vansau said:I'm waiting for the inevitable Fox News freakout.Thrust said:And let the controversy pot boil.

I'm excited because it is the Persona team. Making my favorite game of all time will get me excited when you announce a game.mikev7.0 said:Do you mean Atlus or the creative team specifically? Thanks, that's what I thought. I played Persona but missed 2-4 due to being Playstation challenged. I usually only have one home system and it's evolution has followed Sega to Microsoft. That game was brilliant I loved the card mechanic and it was a existential masterpiece. So my chance to play another game by that team being this I think I'll pass. It's no offense to Atlus I gave Steal Princess the miss too. Actually I just waited too long to try to go buy it (I forgot Atlus basically makes a number of games equal to their pre-orders.) Yet unless you're like me and know that it's not your thing if you're on the fence then you should just get it as a financial investment and try it and see since I'm currently trying to replace Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Endless Frontier and that's going to cost me about $200. So Catherine will probably break Ebay records....RedEyesBlackGamer said:I'm excited because it is the Persona team.
