Hell, that's downright civil compared to how the St. Paul cops dealt with the RNC protesters last fall.

Teasing aside, the Iranian Interior Ministry seems to pretty much exist for the purpose of harassing reformers. It says a lot for their commitment that voters and protesters still turn out in the numbers they do.

Ugh, this is horrible.

While looking into this topic, Mir-Hossein Mousavi seemed the better choice for government before I learned of his past political mass killings. Neither government sounds right at the moment, but for the people, Mir-Hossein Mousavi looks like the better choice sadly.

At least his socialistic ideals would have prevented crap like this from happening. Yet the man who still allows the beating of women by police to continue, manages to get in.

*Sigh*

This event proves how bad Iran needs a stasble government needs a good leader rather then one which could have been rigged by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

EDIT

According to Human Rights Watch before this event even happened, "Respect for basic human rights in Iran, especially freedom of expression and assembly, deteriorated in 2006. The government routinely tortures and mistreats detained dissidents, including through prolonged solitary confinement."
So what happened there really doesn't suprise me.

Is there anything redeeming about that fucking nation? Seriously?

I'm normally not one to support the idea of the US going in and installing puppet governments, but they seriously couldn't fuck things up any worse than the despots who hold power now.

It's a shame too, because I bet "normal" Iranian people are pretty nice and just misunderstood, but with the shit their government or religious leaders pull, no matter how nice the civilians are, they need to take out President Ahmanjihad no matter the cost. If it means leveling an entire city, so be it. Same goes for Kim Jong McStunty, you're next you hairy Chicken McNugget with legs!
Ahmadinejad is a fluke, even within the Iranian political system. Previous presidents have been much more pragmatic (Rafsanjani) or even moderate reformers (Mohammed Khatemi, who bowed out in favor of Mousavi). As president, his actual power is severely limited by the non-elected Council of Guardians and the Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Khamenei), whose support for him ranges from staunch (as it is in the face of allegations of vote fraud) to nonexistent (his passport has been revoked while he was in office because they consider his international statements to be embarrassing).

The U.S. is unpopular in Iran for a reason-we've already helped to overthrow a government there (Mossadegh in '53). Letting popular resentment of the current government simmer (and dislike of the West fade) in the face of calculated diplomatic overtures is probably the best thing we can do for our image there. The guns-blazing approach doesn't seem to be in vogue this year.

i like this a lot. Its funny, though, that this is basically george bush's plan circa 2003.

I hope we do more than just sit and watch those people burn.

Those protest signs were in English for a reason

I'm sure he likes people, but why help a government that refuses to ever be constructive? If we could help individual people without going through the government, I would support it.

We could fix the problem, from about a 1/4 mile away for about 13 cents.
If you catch my drift.

Great.

Although, I must say, I don't think Mousavi is that much different from Ahmadinejad anyway. But, I guess he could be considered the "lesser" of two evils.

I reckon the sitting president have two options. Either he will crumble under the peoples pressure or he bring in the tanks. Let's hope the latter never happens - we don't need another Tiananmen Square massacre.

Ps: Is it named Tiananmen Square massacre? Took it right from Wikipedia and has never heard if it. Is not born english speaking. Ds

It must have been weird to have been beaten and then a short while later offered something to drink and told by the person who beat you that they're your friend.

Its Iran it is just another Dictatorship in the most volitile part of the world and the only reason anyone cares about them is because they have oil. The quicker that runs out or we find a way around it the better.
