I only read the first 2 pages of this thread, but I still see some pretty stupid people posting on the seventh page.

He has considered all the consequences you're mentioning and either you're wrong about it affecting him, like the job and credit checks or whatever else, or he doesn't care. He's tattooed Vegeta onto his forearm already, I'm pretty sure he's not worried by whatever social impact a strange name might have. I'm not sure what kind of world you guys are living in where adults bully each other over their names, but most people who are worth knowing would just give friendly teasing in fun at the most. Since you're worried about people being teased though, go down to your nearest school and warn all the kids about being different or individuals, in case they get teased for that too.

As for the "horrible long time life ruining consequences", a) he's got a steady job, b) it's less permanent than the visible tattoos he's already covered in, and they obviously haven't impacted his career, and c) I know lots of people with strange names who haven't had trouble getting a job. Birdie, Calamity Jane, Pretty, Chocolate and Superman are the strangest real people I know.

He was asking for votes on which name, not if he should or not. Good on him for doing what he wants without worrying about what others think.

As for answering his question, I'm going to go for a split. Darth or Legato; Darth because I'd love to see that being used on official forms, and Legato because that's the one I'd personally be happiest using.

So what you're saying is... he's already got the shitty tattoos, why not go for the lame name as well!

My friends husband is in his mid forties and his name is Atom.
He legally changed it to Atom using quite unique kanji characters.
I am not sure what to make of it though...

I personally have a unique name, and my friend also has a really unique but not too radical name, and we both use unconventional kanji characters.
I think our names make more of a statement than Atom...

Heh, I don't think you should change your name to one of those. No, not because it's irresponsible or whatever crap people are throwing at you but because they suck.

Seriously.

None of those names are any good.

I would advise against changing your name to something from that list. There is a very real risk of making yourself unemployable, any job application with those names on it will look like a joke and be filed in the bin. Also any hope of finding members of whatever you sex you are attracted to with name is somewhere around zero with those names.
Yeah, I'm gonna agree with this guy. There have to be more acceptable names that have significance to you, not all fictional characters have crazy names.

Wow, yeah okay.

You're gonna regret that. I'm all for changing names, heck, I wanna change mine too. (I just can't be bothered with all the legal stuff/confusion yet)

You should choose something a little... less eccentric? To put it nicely. xD

Having "Darth" as a first name is going to alienate you way more than the tattoos would.

[sub][sub]In case anyone is interested, I'd be changing my first name to Sky[/sub][/sub]

First pick: Legato Kaiba (possible nickname - Leg)
Second pick: Siefer Almasy (possible nickname - Sief)
Third pick: Mithos Yggdrasill (possible nickname - Mit)

I wouldn't go with the other two simply because I don't like titles as first names, although they sound pretty cool as last names, maybe something like Vegeta Prince?

Don't listen to people trying to discourage you, I've heard of people change their names to things far more ridiculous and outrageous than anything you've listed here. Like "Optimus Prime", "Captain Awesome" and "Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine The Hulk And The Flash Combined". Seriously. Google it.

I, for one, support your wishes to choose your own name. Other people may give you a lot of flak for wanting to change it to something they don't like, but your right to not be limited by the choices of your parents, in my opinion, is a powerful argument.

The thing is, though, I believe that picking your name is your right, not ours. I cannot, therefore, in good conscience, choose it for you, even as part of a crowd-source. I would rather that you ignore the people in the thread altogether and simply choose the name that you feel most comfortable living with. You're going to have it for quite a while.

I like Legato and Mithos the best, since those are words that actually exist in real life. I get the feeling Seifer Almasay is going to win this poll, because Final Fantasy, but personally, I think Mithos Yggdrasil is pimp as fuck. I'm surprised there's so little support on this forum, populated by nerds, for an entertainment website called "The Escapist," for changing your identity in some small way. You do your thing, Whatislove, and let the haters hate.

Full disclosure, though: I feel like another reason most people are voting for Seifer Almasay is becuase it is the least likely name to get you punched in the dick. Seriously: even when I see "Darth Something" or "Vegeta[seriesofnumbers]" names on the Internets, where anything goes, I want to punch people. I don't know how much worse it would be in real life. There's something very juvenile about these names that just makes me sigh in exasperation. Regardless of how interseting a character Vegeta was or wasn't or how cool sith lords are or aren't, I feel like the other three are slightly more appropriate names for a grown man who isn't an angsty tween who secretly wants to be able to explode planets or kill people with their dark force powers and emo poetry. Still, Seifer and Kaiba both also kind of have that problem to a lesser extent...

You know what, fuck it. I'm voting for Mithos Yggdrasil twice. That's 4 points, right? It's an awesome name with ties to genuine mythology as well as pop culture, and that makes it much more respectable. If someone introduced themselves to me as Mithos Yggdrasil I would be thinking "That's weird, but also kind of awesome." If someone introduced themselves to me as any of those other four names, I'd be thinking "Oh God, how can I get out of this conversation?"

... as an aside, as an American, I kind of feel like the fact that OP is Australian factors into his laid back, cavalier, entirely reasonable attitude about this whole thing.

If you want all of your conversations to be about your name, sure, go bonkers.

I'd say pick the vegeta one, but make it your first name and keep your current last.

In International News, the continent of Australia has gone dark and no new communications from the country have been received in several hours. We are, however, receiving word that networking tycoon Darth Yggdrasil has forwarded his list of demands to the local authorities, giving them limited time to respond.

Personally if you want to change your name, change it to something more creative, something that also have some meaning that only hobbyst or more educated people would get (can't think of anything at the moment but I'm really bad with names). Naming yourself after characters you like is neat idea but it's hard to find good pair of names. I'm sorry but none of your chosen names are any good (IMO). And seriosuly, Prince Vegeta? I get that you like Vegeta (I like him too) but Prince is really pushing it (also in my case, first person that comes to mind is Naseem [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naseem_Hamed]). What is the problem with doing like with other names and gluing two characters together? It would be better if you found some character that is similar to Vegeta in terms of personality.

Or for example get first name same as character and second name as trait invaluable for that character this character (preferably in some other language so it wouldn't sound super stupid for people in your vicinity). Like Takeshi Vegeta. Takeshi written as 威 in japanese might mean power, authority, might, influence, dignity, majesty. Or Gōgan Vegeta. Gōgan written as 傲岸 in japanese might mean pride, haughtiness. This sound pretty acceptable in normal society while still persevering your love for character and also deeper meaning. Getting names in japanese is a double win because it also won't sound retarded for native japanese speakers since japs are named after everything anyway.

Or just go with Darth whatever but don't forget to buy this shirt [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAjdan2TEfQ] for best response.

This too. If you go with any of these names and don't become a corrupt media tycoon, I will be disappointed.

I demand you name yourself Yibb Tstll. You can't get more nerdy then naming yourself an obscure eldritch abomination. Or Atlach Nacha. Or Chaugna Faugn.

Just change your middle name to lazer, it's different, and most people would only know your middle name as L.

Farmstink Buttlass, definitely.

But for real, if you're gonna do this just bite the bullet and go full retard. Change first, middle, and last to the following:

Legato Prince Kaiba von Yggdrasil (it's correctly spelled with only one S and one L.)
