Well, the Master chief has less personality and emotion than a cement block. he is the least interesting character i have ever come across, that of itself does not make for a bad character, but the way the fanboys treat him as bad-ass in hyper-condensed form. really puts me off the character.
To be fair the expanded universe does give him much more of a back-story and personality.

That shithead from Gears of War voiced by Bender, and that smug prick from Uncharted.I guess it is needless to say why i hate them. Also, almost every black character.Especially, when the main protagonist is black.Oh, and i almost forgot, Ezio and Desmond.Ezio has the most fucking irritating accent for me.I just want to deliberately fall from the syncronization points every time he opens his god-damned mouth.Desmond is so bland and dull, and that "quick-wittedness" attributed to him in "Brotherhood" is just not working for him in any way.

ALL of the characters from FFX-2!
Seriously!
I couldn't play that game for more than 5 minutes.
It felt like a game that a feminine elitist would play... Or a 2 year old... that had no sense of gaming... at all!

In terms of how the media will perceive the character? Duke Nukem, without a doubt. Yeah, I realize he's satire, but the Fox News viewership probably doesn't, and after watching Fox News, never will. They'll just listen to Fox and assume that Duke is completely representative not just of video game characters, but also those who play video games.

Hail to the king, baby.

All this hate on the king, man that's kinda upsetting to think that this many people can't find Duke awesome for what he is. A giant parody, he's never meant to be taken seriously and seems like a lot of people are. Just cause you say you understand him as a satire doesn't mean you do, the developers said themselves he's a giant parody of all 90's action heros.

Also, I watch fox news, my whole family watches fox news and we still love video games (wow that's an oxymoron according to you guys) Just because someone's a conservative doesn't make them ignorant. Assuming that anyone who watches fox news is ignorant is the truly ignorant thought.

Most hated? Otis from Deadrising. *in the middle of a boss fight* *RING RING! RING RING!* NO!

Gaming is art, therefore "disgraceful" cannot exist?

OT: I intensely dislike Hope from FFXIII. I did play it through, but not even his character progression could mitigate those first horrible hours of whinging.

Bloody Tidus. Not only was he superfluous to the plot and a complete waste of space, but he didn't even have the good grace to realise it!
"This my story!"
No. No, it is not. Go away.
Except yeah it was. Without him, Yuna would have scarificed herself and continued the Sin cycle. The fayth knew that his outside perspective would allow him to break the cycle. The fact that Yuna fell in love with him and decided she didn't want to die anymore was just icing on the cake.

Pay attention if you want to make assertions like that.

Mario, fat racist stereotype with as much depth as my pinkie
Wait, really? He's a jolly blue-collar guy who's pretty quick on the uptake and likes to help people, who happens to be Italian-American. Even positive stereotypes aren't exactly the best things, but I'm not really seeing anything to get up in arms over. If I were to raise the battle flag about anything there, it would be the classism and American stereotyping of an blue-collar laborer immigrant.

Now, if Mario joined the mob or started beating Peach, I'd be a little concerned.
Yes it isn't something to get up in arms about, it's just one other reason why I dislike him, immensely.

Those two IDIOTS from Army of Two, rios and salem or whatever. I never played the second one so I'm not sure about that one, but in the first game they talked and acted like 12-year olds... Now I have no problem with cussing in games, but in Army of Two they swore like pre-teens that just learned all the swear words for the first time. They gave the game such an immature and juvenile tone.

Starkiller from the Force Unleashed comes to mind immediately; Yahtzee sums it up well - he is a superpowered emo with a fringe that reaches the floor; he just whines all day long and keeps acting with the maturity of a ten year old.
Probably not the worst one, but he's the only one that currently comes to mind.

A character that's a disgrace to gaming? Wouldn't that mean...a disgraceful gamer character? I mean, since when have badly-written characters reflected badly on their medium?
Since jar-jar.
I laughed so hard! sigh* forgot about him
*sigh* Here I go loving things others hate again.... I don't understand why everyone hates this character concept either except that maybe they don't understand that Jar Jar is a "living" metaphor for the Taoist ideology. Maybe Taoism is a huge turn off when it comes to entertainment? That would make sense for video game fans since so much of what we do is all about making decisions and Taoists.... Well, y'know....
Actually, Jar Jar is just a comic relief character. Nothing more. You're reading way too deep into his (extremely shallow) character. I'd say the Jedis are much closer to Taoists than Jar Jar ever was.
I might agree with you if you were talking about the Jedi that were scholars and philosophers, yes. However, once you don the monk jammies and start meting out justice with a lazer sword it kind of defies the concept of the uncarved block, no?

To be fair my perspective of Jar Jar comes mostly from the books which give him a lot more dialogue and in a couple of conversations with Padme his lines almost sound directly taken from the Tao Te' Ching. Just my opinion. Great books by the way if you enjoyed the films.

I'm sorry but what's a "Mary-Sue?" Is it anything like an "Anna Mae" they seem equally unliked....
A Mary-Sue is a character that is just perfect. They have mad skills for no real reason, and are liked by people despite being bland. Bela, from Twilight, is an example
God, I love TvTropes : D

I was about to mention Duke Nukem just from seeing gameplay of DNF, but ever since someone mentioned a certain Rosh Penin, the Duke has suddenly become a lot more tolerable.

The voice, the endless whiny voice! Suddenly turning evil because he is a jerk and then demanding to be kept alive! Kyle Katarn, why did you hold me back!?

A mary-sue is the equivalent of someone who is so powerful that it defies the laws of giving any sort of crap about the character. See: Kratos (God of War.)

There's quite a lot of them, I say. Kratos is pretty high, as well as Duke "Twelve More Years" Nukem. Hope (FFXIII), Lightning in her Dissidia counterpart, (Screw her. Seriously, Dissidia '012' was Dissidia XIII.) Master Chief's over-hype. King Arthas from Warcraft.

But you wanna know who I hate the most?

Player-created characters in World of Warcraft that reach level 60 or whatever it's on now.
aw what u got against us wow players? anyway my most hated character is Rochelle from l4d2 its not her fault though, valve just decided to make her say annoying things when she's hurt badly. As for Kratos, he had character development in the first gow but in the 2nd and 3rd he was just someone hellbent and perma-pressed on revenge because of his nightmares.(So was zeus the only god he could have asked for help about his nightmares or what?)

She sickens me to my very core. I hate everything about her: her aesthetic design, her voice actor, her moves, her personality, everything.
She HAS to be a joke character, right? Nobody in their right mind would make such a foul beast. I would also complain about how she only has Ryu's movelist copied, but then I would have to complain about 80% of the fighters-
